Late Round Prospects for the Vikes

there's plenty of talk with what we should do in the earlier rounds, but i haven't seen much discussion regarding late round prospects. considering after compensatory picks being dealt, we now have two picks in each of rounds 5, 6 and 7 -- let's share our thoughts on the players we don't hear about as often.

and yes, when you get down to the bottom of the draft it's probably best to just take BPA, and there's a chance we package some late round picks to move around earlier in the draft, yadda yadda -- ignore that for now and let's get into the specifics of any value players who might be available.  here are a few of my favorites...

Cortez Allen, CB (Citadel) - 5th rd -- tall corner (nearly 6'2") with some decent upside.  had a great combine, will need some time to adjust but could develop into a starter in time, perhaps at FS.  could sneak into the 4th round but if he's there in the 5th, he's a steal.

David Carter, DT (UCLA) - 6th rd -- big boy at 6'5" 300lbs, with good quickness on the line.  got snubbed from the combine, but could provide some depth.

Kris Durham, WR (Georgia) - 7th rd -- here's Mayock's diamond in the rough.  had a helluva pro day, running the 40 in 4.43 with a short shuttle time of 4.09; benched 17 times, with a 35" vertical leap and 10-1 broad jump.  at 6'5" 217lbs, he could be a decent red-zone target.

Brandon Fusco, C (Slippery Rock) - 5th rd -- has been rumored to have interest from the Vikes (and several other teams) since the Senior Bowl.  small-school stand out that could use some work, but would have a decent shot at competing for the starting job.

Owen Marecic, FB (Stanford) - 5th rd -- another player the Vikes spoke with at the Senior Bowl, he's an impressive football player and would be a beast on ST.  already has chemistry with Toby Gerhart, throw in AP and we'd have a stellar backfield.  Marecic could go in the 4th, which wouldn't be a stretch (even for us), but talk about good value in the 5th -- hopefully Harbaugh won't snatch him up in SF.  (I know we have D'Imperio waiting in the wings, but I like this kid's tenacity and reuniting him with Gerhart could lead to some good things down the road.)

Brian Rolle, LB (Ohio State) - 6th rd -- a bit undersized at 5'10", but athletic as hell and put up 28 reps on the bench press at the combine (fourth best amongst all LB's).  at the very least, he'd also rock on ST.  could go earlier than the 6th, but again, value if he's there.

Owen Spencer, WR (NC State) - 7th rd -- nothing incredibly special about this guy, but he'd be worth taking a flier on, especially if he goes undrafted.

any thoughts on these guys??  who are some other players that could have good value in the late rounds??
