So, I'm going to join the other people analyzing the selction of Christian Ponder. Sorry, but I couldn't resist.
So, I am, as things currently stand, not happy with the selection of Mr. Ponder. I feel like the number one need for the Vikings wasn't qb. And especially looking at the draft board, and seeing that Prince Amukumara was still on the board. This seems to me like a reach, by a team that feels like it has this overwhelming need for a QB, when they have Joe Webb who has a good shot at being an excelent qb. But, as Chris menntioned (and Ted had the same basic idea) how are we to know how Ponder will turn out? He may be great, maybe not.
On to what I like about it. For one, it's clear that Ponder is very intelligent. I heard this morning that he has an MBA in Business which tells me two things: one, he's smart because he got his degree, and in business no less (not to hate on other degrees) and two, that he's smart because he stayed in college that long. I like that, when a guy stays in college for that long, sticks it through, and gets his life in order so he has something to go to after football.
In short, I feel like the Vikings had more pressing needs than QB, especially with taking Ponder. I would've liked to have seen them slide back, and take a QB there if they felt the overwhelming need to. But oh well, no use crying over spilled milk.
