Minnesota Vikings Select Arizona Defensive End D'Aundre Reed
Apologies for the delay on these last two picks, ladies and gentlemen.
With the first of their two seventh-round selections in the 2011 National Football League Draft, the 215th pick overall, the Minnesota Vikings finally grabbed a defensive end when they selected D'Aundre Reed from the University of Arizona.
Reed projects to be a potential practice squad project for the Vikings. . .he measures in at 6'4" and weighs around 260 pounds. He isn't quite big enough to play on the defensive line yet, and he isn't quite fast enough to be an outside linebacker.
This is a bit of a surprising pick for the Vikings, as Reed was projected as more of a 3-4 type of player, and it would seem that he would have trouble fitting into the 4-3 scheme that the Vikings run. However, you never know with some of these players sometimes, and we'll have to wait and see what, exactly, the Minnesota Vikings have gotten themselves with this pick.
Welcome to Minnesota, D'Aundre Reed!

He’s strong enough to hold up against the run on the edge. It will behoove him to put on 10 lbs, but the strength is there. Ray Ray isn’t much bigger.

260 isn't big enough?

Lance Johnstone played at 255 not too long ago. Brian Robison is 259. Sure you’d like him to be 5-10 pounds heavier if he wants to be an every down guy, but he can still be part of a platoon at that weight too.
