Game 1- Minnesota vs San Diego - Opening drive

Whether or not there will be football this year I do not know. Negotiations are at an impasse (as far as I know). Millions of dollars would be lost by both owners and players, but us fans are the ones who will lose the most.

The Viking's have a new head coach, Leslie Frazier, and a new offensive coordinator, Bill Musgrave . We have drafted Florida State QB Christian Ponder in the first round. Which is great but we also have an athletically gifted QB by the name of Joe Webb who played pretty well last year in his inaugural season. The kid can run, and by all accounts, has an excellent team attitude. And of course we have the best running back in all of football, Adrian Peterson. And an offensive line who had a tough year last year and  is a bit suspect (I refer you to Teds article -

I'm pretty sure most teams script the first set of downs, and even probably attempt to blueprint the opening drive (although of course this is subject to change if the circumstances call for it). But my goal here is to script the opening series for this years first drive. Pretty tough task since it's difficult to know who we might acquire in free agency.  But if you were one of those who bitched at Chilly and Bevell for the lack of creativity, for not giving it to A.P. enough, for giving it to him too much, for not going deep often enough (one of my pet peeves), or whatever, let's see what kind of offensive coordinator prowess YOU have! I'll start if off, and would be pleased if you creative and way more knowledgeable Viking fans would either continue the drive, or start one of your own.

Vikings win the toss and will receive. Rolf Benirschke Nate Kaeding kicks it to David Palmer, Randy Moss, Troy Walters, Nate Jacquet, Nick Davis, Keenan Howry, Nate Burleson, Mewelde Moore, Bobby Wade, Jaymar Johnson and it's returned to the SD 35 yd line. First play - fake hand off to Adrian to the right, quick pass by Ponder (or would it be Webb?) over the middle to the Shank. Gain of 6. - 2nd and 4- Adrian, quick slant left, gain of 2 ( I have no knowledge of S.D's defense unless Seau or Merriman happen to make a comeback).  3rd and 2 -  Here's the weird part. If I give it to Adrian and he gets stuffed, as an offensive coordinator, I will likely get bitched at for not being creative enough or being too conservative. If I roll out and try a screen or a quick slant to Percy (love that play) and fail, I'm a complete dumb ass for not giving it to Adrian. Pretty tough job being O.C. I would say.
