Hey guys, I hope you're all enjoying your Memorial Day? Unfortunately it isnt a day off over here in Scotland so I thought i'd do a quick post on my lunch break.
I've been doing a little thinking about how i hope the 2011 season turns out (Super Bowl Victory of course but i am trying to be realistic) so after the jump i'll quickly throw in my money's worth on what i'd like to see from the 2011 season:
So it looks like we'll have a young QB under centre for the opening game in San Diego (whether it be Webb of Ponder) and it also looks like we will be without the Williams' (if Pat is to return) for up to 4 games. With that, we are transitioning slightly this year, so i think the play-offs might just be beyond us this season.
Of course i'd love to be wrong about this, but if we are stuggling after the first 6 games or so then i would really like to see the FO take the opportunity to blood a few more of the younger players for the remainder of the season. This would allow them to get vital game time, giving them time to develop and understand the NFL first hand.
Fortunately we are not completely rebuilding the team this year, we just need to add a bit of depth at certain positions. Another solid draft, with the addition of a seasons worth of experience for our new QB and younger players would see us with a excellent squad. With our core talent still in their prime (perhaps with the exception of Hutchinson) combined with a developing QB, experience in depth and 1st round pick possibly contributing right away we should be geared up for an assault on the playoffs in 2012.
Although i appreciate that others will say that we should stick to our best players throughout the season, i feel that we would be missing an opportunity to develop our rookies, much like the Buccs have done recently.
Personally i would be happy to see the ^ use 2011 as a year to develop some of our younger players for the 2012 season, whilst retaining our key players to help protect and develop our QB. This would see us become a strong team for years to come.
