Minnesota Vikings Assign Numbers To Newly Drafted Rookies

The Minnesota Vikings have announced which numbers will be assigned to the ten players that they drafted this past week. So, if you want to get a quick jump on ordering that new Mistral Raymond jersey from the NFL Shop, you can feel free to do so.

Here are the numbers that have been assigned to the newest Vikings.

Christian Ponder - #7 (in case anyone was still holding out hope that Tarvaris Jackson would be back in 2011)

Kyle Rudolph - #82 (please, please, please don't let it be a curse)

Christian Ballard - #99

Brandon Burton - #36

DeMarcus Love - #75

Mistral Raymond - #30

Brandon Fusco - #63

Ross Homan - #57

D'Aundre Reed - #92

Stephen Burton - #86

It's interesting to note that Jackson is the only person from last year's team that had his number given to one of the Vikings' rookies. He didn't even get a chance to sell it to the new guy. . .but, then again, Ponder doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that would raise a huge stink over which number is on his jersey.

seriously though

is nobody missing favre as a player? For the first time in 20 years, Brett won’t play football. That is just strange, weird and downright sad. I do hope that favre one day comes back and becomes a qb coach or something.

Nope.

I appreciate everything he did for us- I really do. I even give him props for returning in 2010, against seemingly his better judgement just because fellow players asked him to. Buuuuut… it’s high time he retired. (Really, he should have retired following the ‘09 season and gone out on top. But again, I think he came back for the team- interestingly enough.) And even he has said he wouldn’t make for a very good coach. Remember, Favre played in a rather unorthodox way, I wouldn’t trust him to coach future talent.

Once upon a time, some guys from this group called "Navy SEAL Team Six" flew in on some helicopters into Pakistan. 40 minutes later... they flew out with the dead corpse of Osama bin Laden, with two bullet holes in his hea... wait, what? They also burned the mansion he was staying at to the ground?
AWESOME!

Favre should walk away and never come back

It will do him some good to be away from football completely for at least a couple years. Let people forget all the crap that went on his last 5 seasons or so and start to miss him.

LOL!

…sorta. Also sorta not funny in the ’don’t joke about that!!!!!’ kinda way…

Kind of like saying Bomb on a plane or Herschel before a Draft happens or Dennis Green when the draft time clock is just about up or Kneel Down during an NFC Championship...

It’s sad, I was just going to do the one example and it just kept going and going lol.

Shogun Rua, still only 1 quality win in the UFC and I don't want to hear any garbage excuses about his knee. That is all.

Rudolph posesses hands.

Troy didn’t.

Incidentally, Troy W holds the honour of being the only sportsman of any code to enrage me to the point where I got arrested after watching him.

by Black Wire on May 5, 2011 6:26 AM CDT up reply actions

Too Funny

I got arrested after the Steve Young vs. the Keystone Kops in late 88 or early 89. That infamous play were he ran 120 yards to cover 55 yards and no one could tackle him, knocked the Vikes out of the playoffs.

by Bobcat m on May 9, 2011 7:51 AM CDT up reply actions

Nice.

I punched a bartender after Troy’s famous “I’m open for 50 yards and still dropped the ball” play.

He didn’t press criminal charges, but I wasn’t allowed in the bar anymore and I got fired from Customs. Although I went back to college after that, met my fiancee and am now just starting out in a new career so I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

There have not been many memorable #99s besides Al Noga

I wonder if Ballard will wind up with a different number if he makes the final roster.

by Caretaker QB on May 5, 2011 12:24 AM CDT reply actions

I consider Chris Hovan pretty memorable. He didn’t last that long around here, but he was still memorable :P

by nectur on May 5, 2011 10:34 AM CDT up reply actions

Of course!

How could I forget Hovan – who for a couple years was very productive.

by Caretaker QB on May 5, 2011 11:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Some good history with those numbers

And just a few forgettable ones.

The ‘Best Of’ list:

  1. - Randall Cunningham
  2. - Bill Brown
  3. - Allen Rice ??
  4. - Dwayne Rudd ??
  5. - Kirk Lowdermilk
  6. - Keith Millard
  7. - Qadry Ismail ??
  8. - Jake Reed

Yes

Check it out, already got another friend checking it out too.

I might even

be able to get some signed if Ponder goes back to Tallahassee.

by FSUViking on May 5, 2011 8:52 AM CDT up reply actions

Did Rudolph play something else?

I remember seeing the stock photo of him when he was drafted and I remember he had a lower number, considerably lower, QB type number.

Was he previously a QB that was moved to TE? 82 is more what I would expect from that position ehh.

College numbers

They don’t follow the same numbering rules in college as they do in the pros. He wore #9 in college but that number isn’t allowed for WR/TE’s in the NFL. But no, he never played anything but TE at any point in his career.

Ishmael last known residence

Believe he was living in the West Palm possibly Boca area. That was 12 years back but he was a regular member of a church that I visited with a friend. he, his brother and Cris Carter all went there but only saw him that day. Carter is all over with his gym in Boca, ESPN. Sure the ishmael do plenty of engagements too

Viking numbers

After looking at the list of all time roster # I noticed there are a few Vikings numbers that haven’t produced any GREAT Vikings so either avoid these numbers or make such a name for yourself that your number can leave this list.

The No Viking star # list: 6, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 19, 21, 25, 27, 31-39, 45, 46, 48, 49, 51, 54, 57, 61, 63, 66, 68, 71, 79, 82 (Ismael pretty good not Really GREAT), 87, 89, 90, 92, 95, 96, 98, 99 (Noga was good & a favorite of mine but wasn’t really GREAT)

Notice wearing 31- 39 kind of puts anything between 30 (Bill Brown) to 40 ( Charley West) as a downer

  1. Chris Cook and #32 Toby Gerhart will change that

Um, hello?

Mitch Berger was 17. He hit some pretty booming kickoffs ;)

by Cobra312004 on May 5, 2011 11:00 PM CDT up reply actions

Pretty good

Also kept a candy bar in his shoe on the bench, good but not truely a Viking GREAT. Plus he ended up with the Aints, just like Sharper, so that’s a -2 cool points.

#99 Chris Hovan

Rockin’ the long hair ages before clay “I don’t think I gained all this muscle naturally” matthews and AJ “Clay JR” Hawk..he looked like an actual viking out there

by PURPpplEATER on May 6, 2011 10:04 AM CDT via mobile up reply actions

funny you mention Hovan

I happen to be rockin’ my own Hovan jersey today! Lol! Again kinda like Noga really liked him as a player but I don’t call him a GREAT.

Actually to amend my initial list I have to add # 2 & # 3. Because for # 2 the best player on there to me was Darren Bennett. Really good punter over his career, but was only a Vike for a season or so. Not enough to put him in the GREAT Viking category. The same for # 3 and Jan Stenerude. HOF, yes but only a Vike for a short time, Plus he played for the Chefs subparbowl team that won against the Vikes. I left # 5 there because Chris “Warcraft” (check twitter) is still playing at a top of the line clip.

Just my opinions, don’t mean nothin.
