Maybe this has been discussed before and thought about and perhaps even decided against, but in the absence of certainty, I thought I'd petition the powers that be and ask for one little teensy, weensy favor. Now that the Daily Norseman is 5 years old and in the top 100 of sports sites on the Web, can we please, please, please have some editing features that allow us to adjust mistakes in our posts? I think it will improve the readability of the posts but also reduce user frustration (e.g. "Doh! I meant 'pass.' Honestly, I just forgot to type the 'p.' I wasn't calling you out! Oh dear! Where's that edit button? Aaaigh!! There's no edit button?!! What do I do? Delete my profile? Go into hiding? Oh, no! I'm such a pass. I mean... Argh! If only Daily Norseman had an edit feature!")
Here's my wish list:
1. Eliminate the feature that turns a single "dash mark" into a cross out of entire paragraphs.
2. Allow users to delete posts immediately after posting when: a) they intended to respond as a reply but accidentally end up creating a new comment; or b) they have created a duplicate post which sometimes happens when the site, Internet or user's computer decides to hiccup.
3. Offer an edit feature that enables people to add a "p" which is to say, correct typos or transposed numbers, turn nonsense into English, and, even, on the rare occasion it happens, perhaps even decide to "lower the tone and tenor" of their response to some other person's obviously silly, if not downright stupid, post.
4. For clarity's sake, I am not asking for a feature that will allow me to edit other people's posts on their behalf, or enable me to give myself "rec's". While the benefits of such an option should be obvious, I realize that some insecure people might come to confuse my "improving" their posts and self recommending myself as being a bit sinister and Orwellian.
In summary, I believe that if the Daily Norseman offers an edit feature, the world will become a better place. Well, not actually better. It will just appear to be so. And in this day and age, that's good enough for me. Now cue the music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzJY96m3lkg
