No. Just. . .No.
You didn't think that we were going to get through the off-season without this, did you?
Yep, get yourselves geared up for the latest round of Brett Favre comeback talk, courtesy of Gil Brandt of NFL.com.
I think Brett is still a good quarterback, but I'd consider him a descending quarterback. It's awfully hard for him to go to a team and be a backup. The Vikings must start Christian Ponder this season to get him some experience. And they're not going to get Favre in there to babysit Ponder.
That said, I do think Favre would be interested in talking to a team about returning. But I don't see a team out there right now that would bring him back as a starter.
At least we know that if Favre does attempt a comeback in 2011, it won't be with Minnesota, as his contract with the Vikings has expired and the team no longer has any obligations to him.
Although we as Viking fans appreciate what #4 did for us during the time was here. . .in direct contrast to the ungrateful fans of his previous employers. . .I think everyone can basically agree with Brandt on this. Favre isn't going to come to Minnesota to mentor Christian Ponder, and Leslie Frazier appears to have moved on from the Favre era in Minnesota. If he was interested in being a backup, that would be another matter all together. . .but he's not, and we all know that he's not. In 2011, the "will he or won't he" drama can be another team's issue.

Great Memories
Regardless of what he does I am thankful for all the great memories of the 2009 season and how awesome our team was. That being said the Ponder Era has to start sooner or later why not 2011
I think Favre will stay retired.
I won’t be surprised to see him working in the TV booth though……..kinda like Gruden.
Maybe they could use Favre with Al Micheals and Chris Collinsworth during the Sunday Nite game…..just a thought !!!
somebody will take him...
maybe even the Packers so they can retire him once and for all.
I BELIEVE...

No. Just...No. Your title said it simply and perfectly Chris.
2009 was great, but nothing good can come from a Favre return at the expense of the team’s future.
sooo
some douche that hasn’t worked for an NFL team since before Favre was drafted was asked his opinion, and the rest of the media is acting like Favre himself has started this…CMON, MAN! Leave shit alone until a credible source says something like, “he’s interested”…of course, by credible source, that would leave out ESPN or the NFL Network
Of course he will try to play sometime this year...
As soon as a starting QB goes down, and Bert knows he can start, he will play.
"We can't get pushed around," Haley said. "What commentators say about us, that's their job. My job is to try and limit as many people who want to take liberties with our guys as possible."

for those of you who are really sadistic...
ESPN2 is playing a tragic comedy tonight entitled “NFL Yearbook: 2010 Minnesota Vikings”
Think I'll pass on that one.

I don't know
I kinda hope favre does come back for one more year with the vikings. I know it wont happen, but having ponder be around favre, watch favre play, and getting some tips about the speed of the game and how to read defenses would do wonders for ponder. Also, Ponder would have a year to truly get his body healthy to play in 2012 from the surgeries he’s had the past 2 years of his collage career.
What I heard was Carolina might be where he ends up
Closer to home, mentor Cam, him and Cam have the same agent. I doubt it happens though.
thats
thats alot of team cap in qb slot though. even with a rookie max cam is still gunna get that being number 1 pick
Good point!
Assuming Favre would want around $20mil for the year, plus Newtons $10mil or so……that would be a huge dent in the team salary cap.
As Al from Home Improvement liked to say...
I don’t think so Tim.

If Favre did come back, he would only come back for a contender.
No way does Favre agree to serve as a mentor to a rookie QB on a team that has no real shot of making the Super Bowl. Favre would no more go out as the starting QB on a bad team than he would agree to serve as a backup anywhere.
In other words, Favre will not be mentoring Cam Newton in Carolina.
And no, Favre will not be back in Minnesota, nor do I want him back as things stand now. Ponder is the starter, and Joe Webb a capable alternative.

Or....
Its some blow hard trying to get his name in the paper by using Favre’s name….
Can we quit giving time to these articles that have about as much truth to them as Florida’s jury system?
**Rupert for ProBowl 2012!**
hey the only reason I like these stories are the oblique jabs Chris takes at Packer fans..
in direct contrast to the ungrateful fans of his previous employers.
Priceless

You're not comparing apples to apples
Favre was worshiped like a king in Wisconsin and treated very well. Sports Illustrated went so far as to say that no athlete in the history of sports has had the following Favre had in Green Bay. Events that transpired afterward are what caused the rift. Packer fans still appreciate the 16 years, but I don’t fault them at all for rooting against ‘09-10 Favre. Not one bit. Minnesota doesn’t have that same scenario. And it seems much of the Favre-love I’ve seen has an alterior motive to simply upset Packer fans.
