Preseason Game 3 Thoughts & Roster Cuts to 75

I will give my thoughts and which players probably will get released on August 30th.

I thought that the offense did some good things.  The line did OK.  I do not think that we can draw too much from APs running because he was making people miss BEFORE he got to the line of scrimmage on several runs.  He had a 10 yard run around the left tackle side which he did all on his own when the middle was stuffed.  I think that sometimes people give too much credit to the line and not enough credit to just how good AP really is.  I am not sure about the direction they are going with the line but I expect they will err on the side of caution and go with veterans in the final cuts.

Dallas is not that good of a defense either.  Not yet.  They were missing their two starting corner backs and Marcus Spears.

So Berrian's two catches were good but you have to take it with a grain of salt.  Terrence Newman and Michael Jenkins probably are a little bit better than Orlando Scandrick and Alan Ball.  The one long TD he caught was a good job but the safeties really just blew it.  If they were our safeties we would be upset that they did not make the play more than we would just give the receiver credit.  His other catch was on a scramble by McNabb that took about 6 or 7 seconds.  He did not catch any passes that were thrown within 3 or 4 seconds.  Again, I thought it was good but I am not too excited about the prospects over the course of a season.  The last two years cannot just be brushed off as an anomaly.  His YPC and TDs are trending downward.  Maybe I do not know what I am talking about or I am too hard on him but I expect more.  When a player has his talent and it is not showing up on the field on a consistent basis then you have to start to think about change.  I am hoping for the very best from Berrian.

Jenkins on the other hand caught some nice balls and they were thrown to him fairly quickly.  He made some nice catches.

I was surprised that Camarillo did not get in until the end of the 4th quarter.  Now that could be just because they needed to see the other WRs more than they needed to see Camarillo.  They know what Camarillo brings to the table.

It was good to see Arceneaux finally show us why they went out and signed him last December. He has to show more next week along with Burton, Iglesias, & Reisner.

On defense I think they did OK.  But the Cowboys were moving the ball decently.  They had some flubs though.  Dez Bryant looks pretty good and he was abusing the corners a little bit.  And they did not have Austin either.  With him they will be tough.

I think Larry Dean (who is a favorite UDFA of mine) shows up a lot.  He is undersized though and I seen him get engulfed and washed out a couple of times.  But he was in on several special teams tackles so that could bode very well for him.  He seems like the kind of LB that needs DTs in front of him to keep the linemen off of him.  If he is free to make plays he is showing that he can do it.

I think that Sherels is going to be very hard to cut because he not only plays goo din the slot but he makes plays on special teams too.

I cannot say that anyone else really stood out that much.

Now to the cuts.  They need to trim 15 players to get to 75.

This upcoming game will be big for some guys trying to make the team or practice squad.  I think that the team will probably go with veterans.

Anyway, ideas about the game and upcoming cuts are appreciated.

Do not be afraid to tell me I am off my rocker (which is not very far away) or need some new glasses!  :)
