Time to make a trade
Look, this is simple. If we want to get to the playoffs, which I'm convinced the front office wants, since we traded for McNabb, we need to shore up the weaknesses of the team. Which one, you ask? The main one, that's plagued us for so many years its ridiculous. In a way, its a double victory if we...
trade for Asante Samuels. Not only will we help to fix our defense's achilles heel, but we will have helped to weaken the Eagles' pass defense. Sure, they could use the pick on a CB in the draft to replace Samuels, but there's no guarantee he'd be as good as Asante is. This could allow us to finally swap either Winfield or Griffin to Safety to really give us some added juice to the position.
If it's Griffin, who I think it should be, it'll help out with his recovery from knee surgery. Then we can pair up Samuels with Cook, who is making an impression in camp after using last season's disappointment for motivation, as starters, and swap Winfield in to the nickle role, which is what we were doing last year anyway. They seemed to like him at that spot.
Alternatively, trade for Mays. He was a 2nd rounder, they'll want something cheap for him. Maybe a 5th. He's a physical specimen at S if nothing else, and his technique can't be much worse than Johnson's.

Believe it or not...
…I think we need O-line help more than we need another CB. A year ago I would have said I was crazy, but it’s the truth.
It is true.
And moving AW to safety would strengthen the position, but it would weaken the CB position. CB>Safety

It wouldn't matter if it weakens
the CBs though, because they would have Samuel there instead, who’s just as good as Winfield, if not better. We’d be much better off with a Griffin – Samuels/Winfield – Abdullah than Griffen – Winfield/Abdullah – Johnson (maybe, if he wins the position battle). The secondary would have some bite to it.

We'll see where some of the young OL players are at
Just like we’ll see where some of the CB and S are at. We’ve got some young guys there. I actually disagree with giving up more draft picks for a Vet CB. Granted, it’s a huge if, but if we’re healthy, our secondary could be good. If our S opposite Abdullah doesn’t work out, put Cook back there. We’ve got some players with skills, it’s time to let our DCoord/HC prepare them to play. OL would be nice to pick up for this year, but we have who we have and to my knowledge, there isn’t anyone else out there who is an upgrade.
Skol!
Trade magic, oooh what a strange magic...
Sure, I’d sign up for trading Mays for a fifth rounder, but then you have to clear cap space and still manage to sign Peterson and Greenway long term, which in part is why Mr. Madieu’s Neighborhood now has Bay view windows.
You can often win any battle if you take your eyes off winning the war. Can it be done? That might be a definite maybe.
You can make a killer fantasy team if you could get all the players you want, but the competition and roster limits typically disallow that, but discussing it still passes the hours…
I would give up a 5th for Mays, but we don't have one next year.
We gave that for McNibbles.
But… I would not put Mays at the safety position. He is likely not a good fit considering the defense we play. But, he may be an interesting prospect at OLB.
6’3" 230 and fast, if he can figure the position out he could be worth the shot.
Mcnibbles... lol
I thought it was a 6th for “Mcnibbles.” A fifth for Mays would be a pretty good deal. As would trading for Samuels, although I don’t think trading away future high round draft picks is a great idea… Maybe a third? Couple fourths?

It seems only Singletary wanted him, apparently, since they’re trying to ship him out the year Mike is gone. That’s not exactly a good sign.
BUT.. I will admit that the potential there is kind of hard to pass up. And with Singletary as our new LBs coach, why not get him the player he wanted so badly on the cheap. If anyone could mold Mays into a scary LB, I think it would be Singletary.
