We Must Protect This House

With Free Agency going all Batshit Crazy on the football world, we've all fallen asleep a little with the stadium issues the Vikings face. Last night(Aug 4th), there was an open house at the Ramsey County Public Works where residents could voice their concerns and get their questions answered.
"We're having this event tonight because there's not enough information out there," Bagley said. "It's a great site, and there's an opportunity to clean it up, get investment into the roads and have more people come into the area to spend money. It's a win-win."
/the bold is from me
Why am I assuming that some people aren't going to see it that way? Just for fun, I'm going to play my favorite game on SNL called "REALLY!?"
Amy Song, who said she lives within walking distance of the site, is worried game-day traffic would clog highways and residential streets.
"You think the traffic, the noise doesn't affect us?" Song said. "When there's a game, (it would be) so congested. I'd have to stay in my home."
REALLY!? ---- Oh my. I would hate for the city I live in to be.....what's the word?.....BUSY??? REALLY!? We're talking about 10 or more(hopefully) games a year. I would have a difficult time not laughing in the face of this person. After the stadium bill is approved, put your home on the market. Start the price at double what you paid for it. Still concerned? How about you walk over to the tailgate and ask someone for a beer. I'm sure someone will have a Grain Belt Premo just waiting for you. While you're at it, grab a burger and enjoy the atmosphere. If you're still concerned about the never-ending "happiness" getting tossed around then chances are you don't get out of your house that much to begin with and "having to stay in your house" doesn't sound like a real issue for you to begin with. Enjoy your cats! And just so we're keeping track, we are officially OH fer ONE with people concerned about the $$$.
Stan Sternal, who's lived in Arden Hills for more than 20 years, worries that with a new stadium would come other disruptive events, such as large concerts.
"There's tons of people going to concerts, and they're drinking, smoking grass. I have to live with that now," he said. "That's what scares me. Not the eight or nine football games, it's the 15 to 20 other things."
REALLY!? [insert reaction to first quote here] I don't blame this guy too much for this opinion. That would get a little annoying. I know we can only get so excited to have the Lady Gaganites walkin' around. Here's an idea: IF YOU SEE SOMEONE SMOKING GRASS CALL THE COPS!!!!! REALLY!? These are the same concerns people have for living in a college town. You don't see those people jumping off cliffs. You want to know what does suck? Living in a city where no one else wants to go and business is scarce at best. If you want to be selfish and don't care about the attractions and economic growth, then move out of the city....or to Canada. We are now OH fer TWO on people having concerns with the $$$.
Others, such as Dave Brudevold, who lives in St. Paul, said he strongly opposes a proposed half-cent sales-tax increase in Ramsey County to help fund the stadium.
"The Vikings have been around for 50 years," he said. "Any business around for 50 years can find their own money.
REALLY!? half-cent......1/2 cent.......HALF CENT!?!?! THAT is your concern? We talkin' bout HALF cent, not FITTY cent. Finally found someone concerned with the economics. Bout time! 1/2 cent tax bump though? Well worth it. These people will not even notice the tax jump. Say someone goes out and spends $500.00 on something. That is an extra 2.50 doll hairs they'll have to pay. If you're dropping 500 bones on something, you're not going to be concerned with $2.50, are you? Who the hell notices this crap!? At least he saved himself a little by throwing out the fact that the Vikings should be able to afford the stadium themself. That's nice. Get back to "the principle of it" reasoning. The Vikings have been around for over 50 years now and yes, they CAN afford it. BUT, the city/state/region BENEFIT from this stadium and they don't want to pony up for it at all?
REALLY!? This is the world we live in folks? Everyone wants something for nothing. Even the government(big shocker there). How about we get a little more concerned with government spending that will NEVER return the $$$. The hoards of people with their hands out waiting for something they believe they "deserve" with no intentions of being a productive member of society. It's not like Wilf takes the money and runs. It's invested back into the state of Minnesota and moneys borrowed are returned w/ gains included down the road.
After reading this article, I actually feel a lot better about the stadium situation. If this is all that people are concerned with, then we should be golden.....Purple and Golden.

I was opposed in the beginning,
I felt that we could spend money on other things, (road construction & schools)
However, we’re not going to get a better deal than $300mil.
I say jump all over this!…especially if the people of Ramsey Co. are okay with it.
On another note:
I hope that’s not the stadium in the pic.
It’s fugly, and those flat roofs look like they’ll collapse pretty easy.
A 1 Billion Dollar Stadium outta look nicer than that.
They better have a phat-ass TV in their too, like the Cowboys have. :)

It doesn't matter.
It was going to be EASY for them to get that done. There’s a stadium going up in LA regardless of what the Vikings do. It has NOTHING to do with the Vikings situation. Now, if there isn’t a September SPecial session for the Vikes and this season ends without a stadium deal in place? Then I’ll start to worry. It’s political, wait around til the last second and try to put the most pressure on your opponent-type thing.
Skol!
Right!
I’ve been following this a bit from L.A. and it’s a target date of 2015, and they’re still getting the City government stuff lined up. If you look at Danny’s pic, all that crap around the stadium is an AEG development – (er, Staples Center) and they have a lot of juice downtown. It’ll get done, since the deal appears to be pretty good for the politicians, and not too bad for the taxpayers.
AEG talked with the Vikes owners a while back, but they have a buch of other low hanging fruit that are way more accessable – including the Chargers (who started out in L.A. back in the day) who have already said they won’t replace Jack Murphy Stadium…and (my sneaky hope) Jacksonville who can’t sell tickets.

well, this stadium deal oughta put pressure on the local-yokles to get it done.
otherwise the best business move for wilf to make would be to move west!
warcraft, you are my guitar hero !!!
The pic of our fake new stadium is odd.
I’ve seen a couple other pics that make it look football shaped.
The road to fulfillment in any line of endeavor is always marked by an initial breakthrough; however, that first taste of success needs to be replicated again and again in order for supremacy to be sustained. We are Vikings, and we shall rise again.

But also, damn you. I was just about to do a fanpost on this exact same thing. It probably wouldn’t have turned out as good as yours though : )

If Ramsey Co. doesn't want to pay an extra 1/2 a penny in sales tax.
Build it in MPLS. I was happy to pay a little extra for Target Field and I’d be more than happy to do the same for the Vikes.
Problem is
MPLS has had their head up their asses and impeded this entire process to the best of their abilities. I’m not concerned about where it goes so much as that it DOES go. MPLS doens’t have the best offer on the table. They got passed up. If they bring a better offer, them maybe something does happen. Right now, Wilf has his partners w/ Arden Hills(and believe me, there’s a LOT of people in MPLS that completely disagree with you on this one) and that’s where he’s focused on droppin’ the dome.
Skol!
By disagreeing, I meant they would much rather see it in Arden Hills than in Hennepin County
It’s kind of a “put it wherever you want, just not in my county so I have to pay for it” type attitude.
Skol!
Very well done=appreciate this post
Frankly. If I were a resident with a nice yard. I would sell parking spaces for a select few. Invite them to BBQ with us and party up. Drive them to the game and make a bundle for the privalage of having aresponsible personwatch their car.
This is done in Tampa all the time and with less trustworty people. But they want their customers back and watch their cars like a hawk.
Say 10 cars or regular attenders at 20 bucks) , picnic (which most good patrons would treat you to) and you got some good Christmas gift money or a couple house payments if you are in the low range

It's done in Talahassee too for Florida State games.

Great idea
People are far too pessimistic when it comes to this stuff. They all worry about what’s going to happen to me me me. If you stop and take a look at the situation, there’s a chance you can use that to your advantage, like the idea above. Nice thought Citrus!

That’s why business’ want it there. So some revenue goes to some taxpayers big deal! Sure helps the local economy when they can spend a little more than their budget permits.)

Hotter than crap here, right Cowbell. I don’t know how thee players do it. My son plays football and I refused to let him paractice when the heat index was over 100 at 7 pm. I did my training ride totally in the dark. have no idea how I did 15 K even in the evening heat.
I pray for these guys all over. And McKinny thinks he is going to come into Minnesota during a heat wave in his condition!
AKA : Revenge4Webb
McKinnie's fat would probably be sizzling if he was practicing right now.
No way he would make it through a full contact practice in the shape he showed up in. It’s so hot that the rats that are normally eating out of my date palms are nowhwere in sight.

I always chuckle when I hear complaints about heat these days
Now that I’m living in Bahrain, it’s hard to hear people going on about the temps. It’s always like that here AND you don’t have the luxury of green grass, trees, or lakes everywhere either. It’s just dust and sand and sun, no clouds, no rain (I was here also back in 2000-2002, when I was still in the US Navy) and it rained one day for 15-30 minutes IN TWO FRIKKIN’ YEARS!!
Insane. Ugh.
Honestly they aren't really thinking straight
If that ladies house really is that close to the field she’s an idiot for not being out there with a shovel and starting it off right now. There is no way in hell that the area around the new dome will remain residential. This means someone (name Zygi Wilf real estate mogul) wil be buying a crap ton of land and staking TGI Fridays and all sorts of other great money makers on it. This means her amazing trailer that is worth a whopping $80k will probably net her twice that if she’s patient. Good grief I’m almost tempted to start buy land around there.

This ^^
People are really stupid when it comes to this stuff. Sounds like this is a little old lady, but seriously, even if you’re not a fan or the Vikigns or even football at all, take a look around and enjoy the show. Soak in the beautiful attraction or cash in on the opportunity. Hell, people put up malls and other stuff and buy out residential land all the time. Those people always get their $$ out of it and if you hold out long enough, you could make a bundle. Then you could buy a home wherever the hell you want and do whatever you want. If you like your home that much, use the $$ they give you and transport your home to somewhere else. I mean, of all the problems people have, getting serious jack for being asked to move is nothing too harmful.
Skol!
I just wish they would get rid of the roof, tell the state legislature to go to H$!! and start building the thing already!!!!

Historically
The data bears it out – football stadiums have increased the property value of the counties and neighborhoods they are in. This is shockingly less true for baseball, and I have no idea why.
Fantastic rant and rec'd.
Like and agree with everything in your post except for the move to Canada line. We don’t want any idiots that hate fun, dislike investing in profitable ventures while cleaning up and redeveloping polluted/eyesore type land. Seriously, there are no valid reasons for not building a stadium at Arden Hills. Economic, environmental, and cultural concerns are all positive with this deal so I don’t understand why it isn’t done yet!
I didn't mean that as a knock on Canada or anything so sorry if that's how it appeared
I meant it as a “go take a hike” line.
Skol!
No worries.
I didn’t take it as a knock or anything. My comment came off more serious than intended as I was quite drunk and was trying to type a sober comment : )

I've yet to hear a cogent, reasonable argument AGAINST the stadium being built by the haters
It’s super annoying – more of the typical, illogical, incoherent drivel from both political parties about it and from the public at times.
Nothing is more aggravating than hearing some arse-clown whine about “why should I foot the bill for the Vikings when I don’t even watch them?” When the reality is that we all pay for things EVERY EFFING DAY that we’ll possibly never used (or have ever used). I can count on ONE hand the number of times I’ve used a city bus, for example, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to gripe about any money going towards the support of public transportation, for example.
Or my other favorite “well there are better things to spend our money on” :::usually said while the person is adjusting their monocle::: The reality is that there will ALWAYS be something better to spend money on that entertainment or fun things – even in our own daily lives. If we lived by that asinine belief system, there’d be a lot more of those suicide phone booths from Futurama everywhere. People don’t just want entertainment or fun things, they scientifically and psychologically NEED them from time to time.
The final thing, already touched on here (and other places) is hearing some butt-munch crying because they might have to pay an extra frikkin’ penny or half-penny once in a while. When you hear this particular argument, you can take it on very good authority that the person spewing it has a serious lack of perspective. And I’m talking a full-blown psychological issue that they probably should just be bringing up in group somewhere.
Okay, done fuming and ranting now. Sigh.

Wow, I like the passion guys & gals.
The price of your house just doubled & people are crying about a half penny! The Vikings are part of our local economy. The NFL is big business & we really don’t want it to leave the Twin Cites. Things will be much worse if this team goes bye bye.
Never take your eyes off the ball...
Good work!
Fans in Cleveland woke up one November and their home team was gone.
You can’t announce in advance, “Hey, I’m making much too little on this deal not to do something drastic, like sell,” because no one will actually believe you, true or not. People in Cleveland didn’t. Immediately after the announcement of the Browns move to Baltimore, the Cleveland public suddenly voted for a better football stadium, but that was a day late and a dollar short—the race horse had already left the barn.
Don’t count on there being any public two-minute warning before any sales deal gets signed. Deals that make money for the NFL won’t lack league approval.
Zygi always makes capital calls this time of year to raise money to sign people, a sign he’s not actually rolling in dough. He can do that successfully because he has that Plan B that includes two California billionaires who can get the money back to his investors in a way no one else in Minnesota will like.
You won’t get to keep the team colors or the team name, because the Vikings lease will expire. The Browns name was retained through negotiations in a court settlement because Modell not only owned the franchise and was keeping the team, but he ran the stadium corporation in Cleveland as well and had changed the terms of the Browns lease so that he could skip town early.
Legally, with the Vikings’ lease openly expiring, you won’t have same legs to stand on as Cleveland did, and what California billionaire is going to take pity on you? If you ever want to see his Vikings again, please just fly out and do so. Ever hear of the L.A. Lakers, dude?
I don’t actually know what Dayton and Wilf say behind closed doors, but if too many people think you’ve forgotten about the whole subject, no good for you will come of it.
If you think an old “Wuck Filf” T-shirt will keep you warm on those cold winter nights without pro football, I know another city full of people with old funny shirts who will talk you out of that silly notion.
