Would we trade McNabb to the Eagles for a first round pick?

The Eagles have high hopes this year. After building their "dream team" they cruised to victory over the Rams. They were leading the Falcons yesterday when Michael Vick had to leave the game with a neck injury or concussion.I personally like the new Michael Vick.  I hope he is OK. Sometimes players miss extended time due to concussions. I hope he doesn't miss much time.

Mike Kafka filled in OK as the Eagles' backup quarterback, but he couldn't match Matt Ryan point for point and the Falcons' offense.Vince Young was on the bench in street clothes.

Realistically, Kafka and Young are a long way off from filling in for Michael Vick well enough to lead them to a Super Bowl victory.

Donovan McNabb never had the weapons and complements around him that the Eagles have around Michael Vick. Yet, McNabb and the Eagles went to five NFC championship games together and one Super Bowl. McNabb is signed to a reasonable salary this year.

McNabb has done a good job for the Vikings. He isn't in the same league as Brett Favre, but who is? He is a wiley vet who gives us a chance to win. He had bad numbers against the Chargers but the o-line was a sieve and the receivers could not get open. He looked better against the Bucs.

The Eagles still run the same offense that McNabb ran for years. If anyone in the entire league can swoop in and pick up the position for the Eagles, it is McNabb (or Kevin Kolb who isn't available).

If the Vikings had the opportunity to trade McNabb to the Eagles for a first-round pick, would we do it? We would probably have Joe Webb start for a few games and slowly give Ponder some reps. We could sign a third quarterback.

This is the only scenario I can think of where we would trade McNabb. Donovoan McNabb is just too valuable to the Vikings right now to consider letting him go for anything less. With McNabb at least we have a chance to win, and he gives our young quarterbacks a chance to learn the game before they expose themselves to the NFL behind our questionable line.

Hopefully this this is just idle talk and Michael Vick can make a speedy recovery.

Eagles wouldnt give a first round Pick for him

Definately not. A one year player isn’t worth a six year player.

The road to fulfillment in any line of endeavor is always marked by an initial breakthrough; however, that first taste of success needs to be replicated again and again in order for supremacy to be sustained. We are Vikings, and our breakthrough is now. We will get that first down, then get a touchdown. Then we'll kick your ass.

are we watching the same games?

vick has a mild concussion , and donovan mcnabb is being tossed around the league like a red head step child noone wants, he has aboout 200 pass yards in 2 games and is 0-2, not to put the blame on him but he is far far far far far far far from being a first round pick…at this point we would be lucky to get a 5th or 6th round for him

I'd make that deal in a heartbeat.

Too bad there is no way in hell the Eagles would give a first-round pick for McNabb. It’s 2011, not 1999.

Though some campbell’s chunky soup sounds like a more fair trade.

I don't even know what to say.

There isn’t one team in the NFL who would give more than a 7th rounder for him. I’m no McNabb hater, I think he was decent this week. But this trade wouldn’t even work in Madden.

This might be a unique situation in that McNabb knows their offense, and while they aren’t Vikings-bad in terms of their all-in approach (e.g., they’re not screwed in the future), they obviously built their team to make noise this year. If Vick/Young have to miss substantial time and they face the possibility of falling completely out of the playoff race, McNabb might be the best alternative for them.

Also, there are some who think Andy Reid might be on the hot seat a little bit. Some in Philly might be bored a little with consistent success but no titles.

According to Bleeding Green Nation, Eagles will have 9 or 10 draft picks in 2012. (The chart in the link was made before the Kolb deal.) They have 2 second rounders, 2 fourth rounders, and 3 sixth rounders.

I don’t think the Vikings could get a second rounder. I’d try for a third or fourth, though.

But I agree with the hope that Vick’s ok. Vick seems to take a lot of hard, awkward-looking, bending-like-a-tent hits.

by jianfu on Sep 19, 2011 10:52 AM CDT up reply actions

A third or fourth rounder is reasonable,

but we wouldn’t trade McNabb in the first place.

No way

Didn’t we pay a 6th rounder to get him? He’s had one game where he throws 37 yards, and another where he doesn’t get a TD. Why would somebody give up a 3rd or 4th for him? We’d be lucky to get our 6th round pick back.

by REVENGE4KLUWE on Sep 19, 2011 11:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Way different circumstances. We had other options, but McNabb would be their only option, thus they would have to pay more for him. Then again, this would never happen because we would never release him, so this argument is pointless : )

We might be able to get a 5th if we're lucky...

and we pay most of his salary. This 3rd or 4th round talk is crazy. There is no way Donovan is worth as much as Randy Moss when we traded for him. That was a 3rd rounder. I think he’d get a 5th at best from Phili… and even that’s doubtful

by mak07 on Sep 20, 2011 9:42 AM CDT up reply actions

Not a bad idea, but no way Eagles give a first round pick for him.

by jianfu on Sep 19, 2011 10:35 AM CDT reply actions

I'm cool with any pick over third for him

We need to make our team better and the draft is where we’re going to have to do it.

No offense

I realize this is a dreamy post but this is like saying, " Do you guys think someone cloned Johnny Unitas and we could get him? Geesh the Vikes are not going to trade Nabb duringb the season and no way are the Eagles dumb enough to consider it.

by Velvetouch on Sep 19, 2011 1:43 PM CDT reply actions

sounds like possible option

Vike’s had only a 6-7 week investment with McNabb. Eagles had a multi year investment.

Go for it if they can get a 3rd round pick or better plus someone that can help on offense or defense. McNabb would be more valuable if we had the wins to back it up. Eagles need something or someone who knows their system. Stranger things have happened.

for a "what if" scenerio, this one seems to involve over-use of your medications, imo.
If the Vikings had the opportunity to trade McNabb to the Eagles for a first-round pick, would we do it?

a first round pick? really? what are you smoking? but if in some alternate universe this would ever present itself as an opportunity, i say absolutely. turning mcnabb into a first round pick would be a serious magic trick.

True only the Vikings thought McNabb was worth any draft picks

Farve only cost us money ,which was well worth it the one year, the 2nd year we all pinned hopes that there was a little magic left.
Cant blame it all on McNabb though,we really dont have that Number 1 reciever, but we do have T.Es,we have Harvin,We have A.D.we have Gerhart, theres Cammy, who I think should replace B.B., and we have Jenkins.
With these players there should be some kind of passing game, but under throws, over throws, and dropped passes aint going to get it done.
Love me some Vikes, but we lose next 2 games then we need put Ponder ,Webb in get some NFL games under belt see what we got in future.
If we find our number 1 of the Future we trade our High pick for more trades and quietly rebuild.

i'm just answering the guy's imaginary question about a mcnabb trade.

we got him for a 6th round pick only 6-7 weeks ago, i don’t see any way that a team would consider trading for mcnabb at this point, especially not for a 1st round pick. that’s coo-coo for coco puffs.

warcraft, you are my guitar hero !!!

by danny lloyd on Sep 19, 2011 9:33 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm reasonably sure

fans in Philly would be up in arms about trading even a 7th rounder for him at this point.

by abba7 on Sep 19, 2011 11:09 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

nobody would trade for him. The guy had 37 yards passing a week ago.

by REVENGE4KLUWE on Sep 19, 2011 11:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Cammy is a slot guy like Harvin I have to think we only kept him in case of Migraines.

and yeah I used a capital M because having Harvin out sucks that bad.

by Grime on Sep 20, 2011 9:24 AM CDT up reply actions

1st round pick is crazy talk...

that’s that simple. If we’re getting a first for Donovan we might as welll throw in Asher Allen and Bernard berrian for a 2nd and 3rd… That’s like us drafting Brandon Fusco in the 6th round and trading him for a 1st round pick in 6-7 weeks. Fusco hasn’t done anything to help or hurt his value, which is close to the same as McNabb…
When we got McNabb, most thought he was done and wouldn’t lead a team anywere good… Right now, I can’t argue with them. 5th or 6th rounder tops, but I can’t think of a team that would give that up. Maybe Seattle or Cinci? Phili will have Vick and Young both healthy in 2 or 3 weeks.

by mak07 on Sep 20, 2011 9:49 AM CDT reply actions

LOL

Why would Cinci? Dalton is tearing it up and ahving a great start.

by Velvetouch on Sep 20, 2011 10:19 AM CDT up reply actions

I'm not sure...

Gradkowski has played well too… But in Seattle, Tarvaris has done better than Donovan too. Hell, I’d probably rather have Charlie Whitehurst than Donovan right now… I was just looking at teams that have questions at QB.
Jacksonville might actually give up a 5th rounder to have Donovan back up and mentor Gabbert. As long as we eat some of that 5 million dollar salary… That seems most realistic to me…

by mak07 on Sep 20, 2011 12:15 PM CDT up reply actions

I don’t think they’d give you a thing for him. It’s not like Vick being injury prone is a some secret. I’m pretty sure he’s only played one full season in his entire career. They’re obviously pretty confident in Kafka, otherwise they wouldn’t have traded Kolb. And on top of that, they signed Young, who is at the very least a solid back-up.

Sorry, but this idea parallels Billy Madison’s response about how the industrial revolution modernized the world.

Like everyone said...

yeah, the Eagles wouldn’t do that. But by G-d if they were game, we’d be morons not to do it. A first round pick? In a reloading phase? And when the vet QB meant to keep us competitive has helped leave us at 0-2? Yeah.

This is ABSURD!!!

As an Eagles fan I almost had a seizure laughing so hard!! And whatever you take to get these dreams, I want some. I think this statement is akint ome actually beliving I will be marrying a playmate

The Redskins traded McNabb in favor of REX GROSSMAN …. Eagles would take young AND kakfa over Mcnabbb at this point. hes terrible

and i dont want to burst your bubble but he was over rated in Phily. couldn’t lead WRs, very incosistent, whines a lot , etc….

he did have vick’s weapons in 09 and was wildly inconsistent and really really struggled against good defenses

Joe...

Not all of us hate outsiders coming over with their insight. I agree with you 100%. McNabb is worth nothing in trade. The Redskins got rid of them because they thought they’d be better without him. And guess what? They are…
His weapons in 09 were young and inexperienced, but he didn’t do as well as he should have. I think it’s telling that 2 teams have already dumped him off for next to nothing. This is far from the Brett Favre situation where teams are going to his home trying to get him out of retirement. Pretty soon teams will go to his home asking him to retire. He’s not a good QB anymore. I actually would rather have Brett Favre this year than Donovan. Taken from the fans in Denver:
“If we’re going to suck, let’s suck with either Brett Favre of Christian Ponder.” Donovan is over the hill, more over the hill than Brett Favre 3 years from now.
Most Vikings fans realize that asking a first, let alone a 4th for McNabb is absurd. We’d be lucky to get a 7th. You’re welcome to come back any time as long as you’re not disprespectful to our team, because that’s what we really care about here…

by mak07 on Sep 20, 2011 9:35 PM CDT up reply actions

i meant no direspect

I don’t mind the Vikings orgnization, so i wasnt slamming no one. But I have watched Mcnabb for 10 years, i know his flaws and positives inside and out.

You guys are MUCH MUCH better to start the Ponder era, and the offense likely won’t miss many beats. Trust me on that, McNabb is a cancer,

he's only a rental....a place holder...behind a high school o-line.

we know what we aren’t getting with mcnabb. ponder won’t last 2 games if he plays now.
it will be the demise of yet another young upper-mid level qb prospect.

That’s a load of crap if you really think he was overrated in Philly. He never had any receivers — and when he did the Eagles went to the Super Bowl. Who woulda thunk it? He also never had any running game despite having a tremendous back in Westbrook. Yet, he led the team to the NFC Championship game for how many straight years? I find it hard to fault him for things he couldn’t control.

by packallday555 on Sep 22, 2011 4:10 PM CDT up reply actions

He always had good defenses and o-lines

for many many years… a top 10 defense. He didn’t even play all that well when he HAD WRs like Jackson, Maclin, Celek, Mccoy, and Westbrook all at his disposal..

I watched the guy for 10 ears. he was a highlight reel qb… he would make highlight reel plays the things youd idnt see was him not leading a wr bounce passing a 10 yard hitch route, totally disappaering in the 2nd half of games where he lit it up the first half (any of this sound familar?)

Player for player

I wonder if Vick cannot be rushed back from concussion a player swap might be an option.

Someone like Antonio Dixon or even Trevor Laws might help especially as Williams is still carrying an injury
