I have seen a disagreement going on about who really should be the second string QB. Unfortunately, it may come down this very question if #5 continues this kind of play. Joe Webb or Christian Ponder? Both are young, both have their own unique advantages and talents and both have their own disadvantages as well. Hopefully it doesn't get to this point (which means a W at Kansas City this week). If it does, here is my take on who should be QB.
Christian Ponder: At first, I didn't like this draft pick at all. Here's a guy who was projected to be a late first-round pick, possibly early 2nd-round and we take him 12th overall. However, after seeing how he played in preseason, it might not be so bad. Ponder has a lot of talent and is fairly athletic himself. He isn't as big as Webb, being 6'2" and Webb 6'4", but I believe Ponder has more talent throwing the football and that could go a long way if he can build on that and keep gaining experience. Ponder has the talent to be a franchise quarterback, it just depends on how the Vikings use him and how well he learns.
My Choice: Ponder is the best choice. Sorry to all the Webb fans, but he is not franchise quarterback material. We need to see what we have in Ponder, and if he is indeed the franchise quarterback we drafted him to be. If he's not, I want to see if give we can't Andrew Luck. If he is, possibly we can draft Justin Blackmon or a big Tackle and give Ponder a better opportunity to develop. All in all, Ponder has more potential and is the best choice.
