I hadn't had a chance to really check out Morris Claiborne or Dre Kirkpatrick before last night's BCS Championship Game*.
It was hard to get a read on Claiborne's cover skills since Alabama basically refused to even look in his direction to pass- I guess this makes him a true shut down corner. When they ran to his side of the field, I felt that he "flowed to the ball" rather than "exploded to the ball". On kickoff returns, he showed remarkable straight ahead speed but Alabama had no problems limiting his return yardage- he didn't seem that shifty.
Kirkpatrick on the other hand, got to make some nice plays in pass coverage and seems very comfortable playing the run- reminds me of a bigger version of Winfield.
I know that Claiborne is graded higher by most scouts but it seems that Kirkpatrick may be a better fit for the Vikings- especially if they stay with their Tampa-2 defense.
Claiborne would probably require the Vikes to use their #3 pick. If they traded out of this pick, Kirkpatrick would probably be available between 7-12.
