A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Coronation

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! (Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

So, who's ready for that Saints/Packers NFC Championship Game that everyone has been hyping since about Week 2, huh?

What? Not so much? Oh, okay then.

Proving that maybe. . .just maybe. . .defense still matters after all in the National Football League, the San Francisco 49ers will host the New York Giants in the NFC Championship Game at Candlestick Park. That means we won't have to watch "Who Dat" diving at people's ankles in an attempt to cause injuries, and we don't have to spend an entire off-season hearing about the impending Green Bay dynasty.

And, for the first time in a few years, fans of the Minnesota Vikings will actually be able to watch and enjoy the Super Bowl.

You know, we put up with a lot of crap this season, both on the football field and on this site. And over the last two days. . .all the crap. . .all the garbage. . .all the trolling (even to the point where people discovered they were too stupid/lazy to do their own trolling and decided to outsource it instead). . .

Somehow. . .it's easier to let all of that go now.

If you're going to go crazy this evening, folks, try to keep it confined to here. No need to go into other homes and take a big, steaming dump on the carpet, regardless of how many people think they have the right to do it here.

But it's still pretty cool, isn't it?

I just love it!

They have been trying to crown the Packers as a dynasty for a few years now. The best at everything and all that. This win by the Giants is just so sweet as it puts a big fat egg on everyone’s face.

You realize

that the next SB winner is going to be crowned “Next NFL Dynasty” don’t you?
They do it every year.

No they don't.

I don’t recall there being talks of a Giant’s dynasty. The Steelers were a ‘dynasty’ the next year because that was the 2nd SB win in 4 or 5 years. I didn’t hear any Saints’ dynasty talk either.

The Packers you heard about, because they were a young group who knocked off pretty much all the ‘dynasty’ teams on the way to their SB victory. I highly doubt we’ll hear about a dynasty if the Ravens or 49’ers get in and win though.

by Jepp The Viking on Jan 15, 2012 7:46 PM CST reply actions

Yeah, normally an outdoor team will rely on a running game a little more than the Packers do.
Next weeks Ravens @ Pats will be an interesting game….they’re almost polar opposite from each other.

by chaosg on Jan 15, 2012 7:52 PM CST up reply actions

... a team with one of the best QBs in the league?

It’s tempting, but hard to blame them for building around Rodgers. Also, we’re just as guilty for building around AD and (what used to be) a dominant defense.

Yeah, really.

If they didn’t build around Rodgers, they’d be stupid.

by REVENGE4KLUWE on Jan 16, 2012 12:03 PM CST up reply actions

It's (NOT) a beautiful day in the neighborhood for Mr. Rodgers!

Oh this choke job is way worse than 98 (Falcons were 14 -2 that year, OT, yada yada yada).

I would say this is the worst choke job since the current playoff format was started. It reminds me of – oh say the 1987 49’ers that everyone wanted to crown and a funny thing happened to them in their first playoff game that year …

by Torstein on Jan 15, 2012 7:48 PM CST reply actions

The worst choke-job in the playoffs recently was definitely the Saints last year. Losing to a 7-9 team? Terrible.

Respectfully disagree

15 -1 teams are extremely rare. And losing at home is worse than losing on the road. But I don’t want to quibble.

I’m just enjoying this too much.

by Torstein on Jan 15, 2012 8:01 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, but it wasn't a huge upset..

The Giants absolutely creamed the Falcons the week before. They shut them out if not for a penalty on Manning in the endzone to give them a safety. So you sort of knew the Giants defense could cause havoc. You could easily have made a case before the game for the Giants to win it.

But last year’s wildcard game, nobody saw the Seahawks taking down the defending NFL Champs. Nobody outside of Washington, that is. That was a complete and utter choke. This was just a bad loss to a better team.

by REVENGE4KLUWE on Jan 15, 2012 8:07 PM CST up reply actions

But that choke ...

was on the road in Seattle. Seatlle is always a tough place to play. Why? I do not know.

by eyeguy81 on Jan 16, 2012 11:10 AM CST up reply actions

But it was against the only 7-9 team

in post-season history, and they were the defending NFL Champs.

15-1 & Done is embarassing, but the Giants are a good team. The Seahawks weren’t.

Not even lousy officiating could help the pukers

Way to go GMen. The blueprint is out. Relentless pass rush from your dline. Athletic LBs who can cover. Aggressive dbs who can press at the line. Offensive line play that actually gives the QB time to make his reads. Quick, athletic receivers who can actually get open. And a QB who can stand tall in the pocket and stay poised under pressure.

Is that too much to ask for?

No disrespect to the giants

But AP and TG are waaaaaay better than Bradshaw and the big fella. The packers actually had more rushing yards yesterday than the giants did. But can you imagine the damage AP would do behind that giants offensive line? Scary thought.

But mostly...

CB’s who can play bump and run. And a good pass rush can beat the pacqueers.

That was our method in '09.

Before Griffin got hurt. He was a pretty good press-corner.

by REVENGE4KLUWE on Jan 16, 2012 12:52 PM CST up reply actions

I think it was all equally important and a perfect recipe to defeat the pukers

Those athletic linebackers allowed the giants to stay in base defense more often without having to stay in their nickle and dime defenses all day. That is a huge advantage.

by NMVike on Jan 16, 2012 4:37 PM CST up reply actions

Athletic Linebackers are going to be the only thing to stop the Patriots too.

Patriots will roll through any team that can’t stop hernandez and gronkowski. Both the Giants and 49ers have a decent shot at that seeing how they have a good LB core and can rush the passer with 4 and get good pressure.

by Brolaf on Jan 16, 2012 4:42 PM CST up reply actions

Exactly.

Turns out you don’t need a superstar QB to win in the post-season. Isn’t that crazy?

The last marquee QB left in the tournament is Brady. I guess you could argue Eli is gaining that ‘elite’ status as well.

by Amrius on Jan 15, 2012 7:56 PM CST up reply actions

I dunno about that.

I think I’d take the Packers WR’s over New Englands in a heartbeat. The benefit NE has is A) a better/not banged up O-line and B) their TEs. I’d say the run game is about the same, more or less. Neither team has one of those game-breaking RBs, just effecient ones.

by REVENGE4KLUWE on Jan 15, 2012 8:00 PM CST up reply actions

NE TE's are the difference

I’ve never seen a team have 2 TE’s that are so dynamic in the passing game like New England has. They are so fun to watch. I think they make all the difference for Brady.

They didn't help last year against the Jets though.

I thought maybe the Broncos could slow them down, but.. lols. Way off about that.

Favre was the worst post-season QB in history.

You guys saw it just as painfully as we did. I can’t think of a single season where he didn’t make an interception his last play of the year, except for when the Packers punt returner won the Super Bowl. Hell, when Favre was in New York, he didn’t even wait until the post-season to do it. I can’t remember off-hand, but week 17 must have been pretty cold if he didn’t even want the Jets to make the playoffs.

Well yeah, unless you wanted him to win the Super Bowl something like 20 years in a row. Otherwise, 31 teams end their seasons in a loss and he being the gunslinger type, would have a higher percentage of end game interceptions. He wanted to win, you can’t fault him for that.

Oh…hahahaha about yesterday. LOL

This was one sweet weekend of football.

As hard as I try, I really can’t personally dislike Aaron Rodgers, even though he went to Cal and plays for Green Bay. But that doesn’t mean a little schadenfreude is out of place here.

At the end of the day, the Vikings and Packers won the same number of playoff games. And the Vikings will get better draft picks, a new organizational hierarchy, and (God willing) a new stadium. Tomorrow’s a bright new day.

Things I Still Want To See In These NFL Playoffs

1. Hard-fought, entertaining conference championships which send the Niners and the Patriots to the Super Bowl. Harbowl II would make for great ESPN fodder, but pretty dull football. Giants-Patriots would also be acceptable, although I’m not sure I could take two weeks of “Revenge for 42!” specials.

2. Two weeks of “Is Brady the GOAT?” and endless highlight reels of Gronkowski, Welker, and Hernandez.

3. An utter and complete humiliation of the Patriots on national television, with Willis, Bowman, and the Smiths feasting on Brady all game long. Vernon Davis outgains Gronk and Hernandez, Alex Smith outduels Brady, and Harbaugh calling at least one trick play which leaves Bill Belichick staring dumbfounded.

4. Me gaining a slightly more balanced perspective of professional sports, and leaving behind my weirdly intense hatred for the Patriots.

Naw.

The defense was expected to be bad. It’s been bad pretty much all season. They just get take-aways to make up for it. Didn’t happen this game.

What hurt them the most was A) drops and B) O-line injuries. Again.

15-1 & DONE

Tale of two 15-1 teams the VIKES and the PACKS

At least when the VIKES choked it was in the NFC Championship game and the game very easily could have gone the other way.

Try as the refs might to make this game close the Gmen ruled the field.

this is too true...
Try as the refs might to make this game close the Gmen ruled the field.

yet again the Packers got call after call in their favor…
the Jennings fumble that wasn’t reversed…
a HORRIBLE spot that led to a 4th down punt for the Giants…
a very questionable roughing call on precious Erin late in the game…

the non-reversal alone is enough to keep that ref out of the SB. so glad the Giants still dominated.

Packers lose

Packers likely lose Grant, Wells, Findley, Lee, Bush, and Flynn this year. Next year Driver, Jennings, Woodson and Clifton all become FA’s. That’s roughly 8 starters from current team that could be gone after next year so Packer window may be closing….. Makes this years loss that much worse!

I can see where you are coming from, Mark

Sadly, Vikings fans have precious little to feel good about at the moment, with little hope for the future given some recent decisions.

I doubt we go 4-14 next year, unless we get a superior DC, because we certainly are going to get worse on the offensive side as teams solidify their strategies against our mindnumbingly weak offense that no one fears, in spite of AD and Harvin.

So let fans celebrate even the simplest thing like someone beating a rival and whatever else comes our way.

by liveforadrenaline on Jan 16, 2012 9:52 AM CST up reply actions

I also doubt we go 4-14

Because winning the division at 3-13, then winning a first round playoff game only to lose in the divisional round doesn’t seem very likely at all.

It is possible, however

Every NFC North team would have to lose every non divisional game & split the division games, leaving everyone tied at 3-13. I think the tiebreaker would come down to strength of victory.

I can also see where you are coming from

as liveforadrenaline has stated, but also, to add to that, they are reaping what they have sown. Yes, there have been trolls on both sides harassing the other, yet, they still come in here spewing the high and mighty. I have gotten that in person as well by alot of their fans. Alot, both APC and in person, were hoping in 2009 of a repeat of 1998 in the NFC Champ game, and they rolled in the delight of our misery.

Now, it’s their turn. They are now the only team in NFL history to achieve 15-1 and not even win one playoff game. I never said anything about hoping that they lose, like many did to us in 2009, I never went to rub their faces in it, like some have to me over the years.

In a small way, I do feel bad, for the players even though there are some I may not care for. Im sure every player on the Vikings over the years have felt that way. But for the 99% of Packers fans that have been more then happy to gloat, I feel no remorse, no sorrow, no guilt. They showed their karma, and it now has come to bite them, hard. Some, it will temper from now on, many, it wont. But at least we can say we can go 15-1 and make it to the Championship game.

Agreed

Chris,
I’d like to add onto what you’ve already stated. Heck, most of what I’m about to say is probably common knowledge with Daily Norseman. Take note that I would hope most Viking fans would snicker amongst themselves momentarily to bask and share a feeling with Packer fans in which they witnessed this weekend. Rather than go on their blogs and pages we can chat with each other how they have added yet another record and non-accomplishment to their season. (Notice that I believe all the Daily Norseman posts are ones that are on this site and not trolling). Sure 15-1 was a good regular season record, but congrats Green Bay 15-1 and no playoff win. They sure can’t take that away from you.

I would also like to say I have no problem with Aaron Rodgers, but the media and fan fake orgasm surrounding him is Brett Favre part 2…more on that later.
As Vikings fans, we all know that trying to have a conversation about football with a clear majority of Packers fans is impossible because they "invite" us to hear about their "views and insights" with no intention of listening to us.

I’ll start with why we Vikings fans love what happened this weekend with the Saints and Packers losses. Vikings fans had to hear about how superior the Packers were (like every other year with baseless opinions) in the 2009 season and how the old soon to be grandpa couldn’t possibly compete with Aaron Rodgers. Two decisive victories against the Pack still weren’t good enough in the league’s eyes or Packer fans eyes. Fine. No problem. Yet, before the playoffs started in ’09 the Packers were going to make it to the Super Bowl (like they are supposed to every year, right?). There was no way that Dallas and Green Bay were NOT going to meet in the NFC championship. Packers give up 51 points and Rodgers turns the ball over on the final play. Facemask, yes we’ll give you that Packer fans. But it still doesn’t take away the fact that Rodgers actually kicked the ball up so a defender could catch it and therefore any discrepancy in whether the arm was going forward.

Moving on, Dallas was not going to beat Minnesota according to everyone outside of Minnesota and Terry Bradshaw. We all know how that turned out.

New Orleans, no way Minnesota was going to win. All the stars were aligned for us not to win that game because Drew Brees did not win that game for New Orleans. If you thought Rodgers took a beating on Sunday, Brett Favre was crucified with officials turned a clearly blind eye in the NFC Championship. (Side: I don’t expect most Packer fans to agree with that because Viking fans could get a Packer fan to go back on a hypothetical question if it was revealed favorably towards anything Vikings related. Therefore Viking fans shouldn’t resort to seeking approval from Packer fans on anything Vikings related because it’s never going to happen) We had to hear about how amazing Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers were all of 2010. Going into 2010 we had to hear how amazing the Packers defense was (oh and forget about that wild card game in 2009 too…when Packers lose, it’s a fluke and scenarios don’t count).

All last offseason we had to hear about a repeat. Even though if you look back, the Packers had the luckiest run at the Super Bowl in a very long time dating back to probably 1990 Giants aka Norwood wide right. (Going out on the limb saying that 2007 Giants had the right formula to beat the Patriots). Your welcome Packer fans for Mike Vick not being able to scramble for the Wild Card. How many Super Bowl teams can say they played 4 postseason games in which the only 6 quarters were played against a healthy quarterback? Viking fans will tell you we’ve played squads at full strength at their peak in nearly all our postseason endeavors. To top it all off, the 2011 schedule for the Packers didn’t do them any favors in terms of strength of schedule. (But the schedule is already determined) Yes I know but it doesn’t matter. 5 games were scheduled in which 4 teams made the playoffs in 2010 if you count the bears twice. When all is said and done, 6 games were played (the lions twice, included) in which ended up being playoff teams. If you want to count Orton’s Broncos, fine, I’ll give you that.

That’s two offseasons that we’ve had to endure about the Saints and the Packers. This offseason won’t be any different because guess what Vikings fans, the Who Dat nation and the Packers will both be undefeated! But this offseason will be easier to tolerate because it’ll be like any other offseason prior 2009. Unfortunately, like us, the Who Dat nation and the Packers will have to keep dreaming until it actually comes true.
After all that, one this Vikings fans get to look forward to is the blame game. Viking fans always look towards coaching first before the players. Packer fans are a different breed and it’s already starting to show. You see, Vikings fans don’t put our players up on a pedestal before they’ve earned it and we certainly don’t tear them down after what they’ve done for us. Do we have any animosity for players going to another team? Nate Burleson in Detroit, Culpepper, Moon, Cunningham, George, Kramer, Tarkenton for leaving to go the Giants [sarcasm] (seriously does anyone?) I think Green Bay is the only "fan" base that does this [please correct me if I’m wrong]. Example, Cedric Griffin, did some things for us, but do you see us and the Daily Norseman calling for his head while not mentioning that we express sorrow that he was unable to do some great things for us. Packer fans will gladly throw players under the bus. Packer fans who are not able to remember much before Brett Favre just because they grew up with him and saw him for so long don’t know and frankly don’t care about anything Packers between Lombardi and Favre. But Vikings fans won’t. You could also say that post-Brett Favre they don’t remember a damn thing that he had done for the Packer organization. Most Vikings fans respected the hell out of Brett Favre and his love of the game. Most of the media obsession had slowly gone away from his ability to play except for when his dad died and ’07 season had a bit of a rival and turned rabid that he "was bringing down the organization." Regardless of his pay cuts and the ridiculous salary space the packers had years and years without bringing in a RB/WR/TE. And even in the 90s and 2000s when running backs and receivers left to play for another team, those players were hated and were terrible players on other team, all the while in Green Bay that year were the greatest receivers they ever had?

Frankly, I never bring up too much history with Packer fans because that’s when they tend to get lost in their own argument and go back and forth within their own statements. It’s useless too and if Rodgers doesn’t win a playoff game in 3 years, you can bet the Packers will throw him under the bus.

As you all may have already seen, the "fans" are already calling for the heads of Finley, Grant, Hawk, and Driver (so they can have someone else to fill his shoes)
[Packer fans always think that is they get someone better when something doesn’t go their way.] You mean, Finley, the second coming! (of Sterling Sharpe! Yeah like Packer fans would actually remember or care about what could’ve been with Sterling Sharpe) is so awesome (which is what we’ve been hearing for years) all of sudden is a burden and we need to find someone better! He is awful and the worst! Ok, according to what you just said, you have to find someone BETTER than the second coming of Sterling Sharpe, because he is awful.

Still trying to pinpoint the goat would be Grant. Seems like yet again, can’t live with him or without him in Packer "fans" eyes. A.J. Hawk is not worth it anymore, even though Packer fans were concerned about his injury. Donald Driver is too old, yet, funny thing is that I don’t believe he had butterfingers against the Giants.

We may see another Cullen Jenkins type move this coming year. Where fans and management think they have someone better than, wait for it…they have someone better waiting in the wings at the _ position and did we mention during the season and that player was the best this team ever had. (yeah we know Packer "fans" every position is a first ballot HOF shoe-in)

Vikings fans acknowledge that problems lay ahead yet again next season, but the rest of the nation saw what we have been expecting all season in a defensive scheme. Viking fans believe this will end the disgusting hyperbole that has been going on since 2009. Will it? Among Packer fans it never does and we expect that, but we just hope that the rest of the talking heads at ESPN and broadcasters and commentators just be a little more grounded when it comes to bowing down to many players who are allowed to have their moment but not constant unwarranted drooling.

I guess my rhetorical question to Packer "fans" is that, why are you so obsessed with the Vikings? Even in a loss you have to equate your lack of success in the playoffs to what the Vikings have and have not accomplished. In your eyes, the Vikings will always be the red-headed, ugly, mentally retarded step child compared to your own high and mighty self-entitled legends in which you don’t even appreciate except when it comes to arguing with Vikings fans. When the red-headed step child has a moment or two, you can’t accept it because regardless of the situation you are entitled to have everything when everyone else has nothing. Packer fans all say they want the Vikings to leave to LA and make fun of that scenario. But what would you do without the Vikings. How unfulfilled would your lives be because you can’t bully (in your eyes what is mentally retarded red-head step child) your rival. The black sheep of the family who’s been around just as long (The Bears) would be the only other true rival. Trolling and yelling at Bears fans win or loss, now that’s just sad people. Nobody wants that.
Lastly, my message to Vikings fans is that whatever happens on the field, let those Packer fans think how they want because believe it or not, most of them won’t be able to digest what I’ve said above and I don’t believe they’ll ever agree with you. Actively seeking out discussions with a Packers fan is folly unless one happens to be a level headed lifelong or good friend or neighbor. Then of course the obvious question if you want to end the conversation or hear a sorry excuse for an answer is why the hell do they live in MN? [if Green Bay is Mecca that is.] That was supposed to be a bad joke. Anyway, the trolls will troll and let them express their weird, confused, suppressed homoerotic feelings towards the Vikings because that’s how their able to sleep at night. I for one have been and will try to stick to Vikings only discussions unless relevant to bring other teams into the conversation (schemes, relevant history, management, acquisitions) and I know many of you do the same and I encourage that Viking fans at your discretion enter in Packer fans of having their cake and eating it too all while shoving the cake in our face (yeah just go with it) and their hyperbole that is a black hole, because you may just lose yourself in it.
Now let me tell you how I really feel.

SKOL!

Now as for us sucking, it really is irrelevant right now, because we are still celebrating the Packers lost. This was basically the best thing that came out of this season for us. Sad, maybe, but it beats hearing how Imparable the Packers are year in and out, even when they are actually just an average ordinary team.

Its typical Lambeau. This year the Vikings were flagged ten times for eighty yards and the Packers received one token penalty for five yards . Many blatant Packer penalties went uncalled. Shanko with a defender draped over his back before the ball arrived, and Asher Allen being flattened ten feet downfield come to mind.

We do not tie our entire worth to a football team, at least anyone that frequents here. The reason we are laughing is that we enjoy rightful comeuppance. You and your pompous clan my friend, received it in spades yesterday. Now go pretend you’re happy somewhere else.

by SirGrizzly on Jan 16, 2012 5:07 PM CST up reply actions

How did the Vikings make it to those Super Bowls without winning a game that mattered?

Granted we lost those Super Bowls but its hard to argue that losing a divisional round playoff game is more important than winning a NFC championship game and advancing to the super bowl. Again, yes I know Green Bay has won X amount of Super Bowls etc etc etc. Just arguing that point.

by Brolaf on Jan 16, 2012 5:05 PM CST up reply actions

I'm sorry, you're right.

It probably should read THE game that mattered. I have no doubt that they will do it soon enough, especially if Ponder can “grow up” before AD is no longer the best RB in football. Maybe re-tool a bit on D, find 1 more receiver, the Vikings really aren’t far away at all.

In the meantime though, it’s at least a little fun to needle that point. ;)

2011: A wasted year

by Tepo6688 on Jan 16, 2012 5:09 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, the problem is the Vikings are ALWAYS stuck in "not that far away" mode.

Until someone like Childress comes along and trades everything we have for Favre and Allen to go into “Super Bowl or Bust” mode. Doesn’t pay off, we rebuild for a few more years. Get back to that “just so close” point. Trade a bunch of picks for two players again, miss the super bowl, rebuild for years. Vikings have a bit of a history with that. Herschel Walker, Favre, and Allen spring to mind off the top of my head. There’s more, just can’t remember that far back cuz I’m a youngin’.

Lol thats probably the least trolly thing you've said.

The way our politicians are handling these stadium talks is pathetic. We might need that contact info for the contractors if you have it. Almost makes me jealous of all the rioting and chaos in Madison not too long ago.

Serious question though. Do you see Matt Flynn leaving Green Bay and starting for a QB desparate team?

by Brolaf on Jan 16, 2012 5:01 PM CST up reply actions

There's no doubt that Flynn leaves, and he's earned the rigt to go somewhere and play.

It’s pretty much just a question of how it happens. Do they franchise tag him and then trade him(which isn’t technically legal, but still happens), can they convince him to re-sign and let them trade him for draft picks, or does he just go to free agency and the Packers get what they get for him in terms of a compensation pick.

2011: A wasted year

by Tepo6688 on Jan 16, 2012 5:04 PM CST up reply actions

Better off for you guys if they trade him.

And get something decent in return rather than if he signs through free agency where there’s no guarantee he goes to a good team. Meaning, crappy compensatory pick if he goes to a team like the Browns or maybe Seattle who probably won’t do well even with a new QB. If he goes to somewhere like Miami (decent established defense already, draft some offensive talent, Matt Flynn at QB) good compensation pick. Kind of a crap shoot. And crappy teams generally win bidding wars for QBs because they are that desperate.

by Brolaf on Jan 16, 2012 5:09 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, a lot of us have been rooting for him to end up in Miami one way or another.

1: he would go a long way toward making that team a perennial competitor, because I really do believe he’s that good.

And 2: The Packers wouldn’t have to play him too often. We don’t need Rodgers getting punked by his back-up. ;)

2011: A wasted year

by Tepo6688 on Jan 16, 2012 5:14 PM CST up reply actions

Wouldn't hurt to snag a few pieces of Miami's D either.

The Pack’s major weakness. Wouldn’t hurt to shore up that defense a little bit and get rid of your backup (who hopefully wouldn’t be contributing too much anyway). In essence, get rid of someone you aren’t using anyway for instant contributors.

by Brolaf on Jan 16, 2012 5:17 PM CST up reply actions

Nick Collins is confident that he can come back, so there's an immediate and massive improvement.

Beyond that, I have faith in Ted Thompson to get the job done in the draft.

If I could possbily make that much money,

by Brolaf on Jan 16, 2012 5:27 PM CST up reply actions

Yep.

Doctors have the final say in about a month or so here, but Collins doesn’t really strike me as the guy who keeps playing until he can’t walk anyways.

As I told Trever

Whether it’s a post or comment….by ANYONE…….there have been comments to the effect of adding to our misery whether a playoff loss or a rather crappy season and more recently, even before yesterdays game, the hope of some that the Vikings move to L.A.

Spin it as you may feel so about it being in post form on here, the “we’re above an beyond this” does not hold water, as has been demonstrated by those that have not been able to let things bee in here by those from other sites.

And, with this being a Minnesota Vikings’ fan site and everything, that’s pretty important.

Really, it’s not terribly complicated.

When it comes to this particular web site, it basically works like this.

Viking fans opinions > opinions of fans of 30 other NFL teams >>>>>>>>>>>>>> opinions of Packer fans.

Probably a jarring thing to hear as a member of a fan base that thinks the world revolves around them, but that’s the way things go sometimes.

WE the VIKING fans make this site GREAT. We could/do care less about what the Packers or any other fans in the NFL think about us, because at the end of the day, this is our home, our turf, we won’t stand to let an outsider come in and spit in our yard without getting his ass roasted like a pig over a fire.

and oh yeah, remember

That’s why this site is great. And that, despite the arguments and protestations of those from the other side of the river, is exactly what this site is. It’s f***ing great. And it’s great because everyone that writes for it and everyone that is a regular here is a fan of this team above everything else.

So it takes stones to be a troll?

I think trolls are maladjusted cowards, and I’m baffled to see you suggest they are somehow brave.

The rest of that blather I understand. That’s you continuing the myth of the horrible Packers fan to rally your Vikings members. Hey man, I don’t begrudge you that because lord knows they need rallying. And, sometimes your team sinks so low that it is no longer a reliable source of inspiration and you have no choice but to rally around hating an opposing group of fans. Happy hating!

by Ben T on Jan 17, 2012 12:18 PM CST up reply actions

Except it's not a myth

It never has been. That’s what you fail to realize.

But, now that your season is over just like ours is, your fans and your community can go back to doing what they do best. . .trolling, wishing for injuries to opposing players, mocking tragic events that happen to other teams, and pretending that you’re so much better and so much more intelligent than everybody else.

Thanks for playing.
