Super Bowl Sundays

Hey Guys!

Myself and a few friends are having ourselves a Super Bowl Party - Scottish style - the game actually kicks off about 11:30pm / 12am for us over here, so it will be a little different, but we all have the Monday off work (woo!) so we can make a proper fist of it this year! It also happens to fall on my birthday (double woo!), but the Norse Gods decided not to gift me the Vikings in the final..... oh well!

Anyways - since we are celebrating the game properly this year, i just wanted to know if any of you have Super Bowl parties? Do you have any rituals or games that you and your family and friends take part in every year? It would be great to hear some suggestions to help improve improve our Party - but even more, it would be great just to hear everyone's tales of Super Bowl Sundays....

Cheers guys, and SKOL!

No Super Bowl party is complete without it.

Scottish style?

You all sit around the living room with your kilts on? I kid – if the Viking were playing it would be an occasion that would approach Carnival status – but since I really don’t even care who wins this game, it’ll probably be just three or four friends (yelling at me to get out from behind the game thread), a couple of cold brewski’s, some finger foods and a big ol’ pot of spicy chili. Most of the people I hang with used to go to a pub to celebrate but nowadays the crowd is so young that you feel like a fish out of water. Staying at home just feels safer. Have a great time!

Yikes.

I was actually referring to the Rio celebration, but this Captain here is going to go down in history as as big of a dip shit as Joe Hazelwood, Captain of the Exxon Valdez. That would be a heck of legacy to try to explain to your grand kids.

This year I get to celebrate

Since I boycotted last years Super Bowl out of no love for one team, and hatred for the other. However, this year, not sure where, but will wind up at one. Myself, I love baking up some hot wings and I make a wicked home made chili with beef stew meat instead of ground beef. Oh yes, gratuitous amounts of alcohol as well!

You might be familiar with this VFNM

But there is a very good website called Allrecipes which has a lot of very good good information about Super Bowl Dishes if one of your people happens to be a chef. It’s an excellent website and here is the link to the SB ideas. http://allrecipes.com/Search/Recipes.aspx?WithTerm=Super%20Bowl (hot wings sound pretty good right this very moment)

When my kitchen gets done with the remodel, I’m gonna be busting ass in it. Most people have me do alot of the cooking. And I have alot of recipes I’ve gotten off that website too. hehehehe

Hey S.V!

You’ll need cases and cases of cheap american beer like…at least 6 – Miller, Coors, Budweiser…there’s no other way to go. (my pal on poker nite opened a Miller, had a drink and said, “Ahh, Miller… the beer I drink to get sober”) Probly should make some grilled cheese sandwiches with Kraft American cheese slices as well.

Really, the superbowl has been pretty entertaining football over the last 8-10 years or so. The games before that were generally dull, one-sided affairs and it became more of a media even than anything resembling good football. It’s certainly gotten better over the last decade for actual fans of the game itself, and I think this year will be pretty fun too, which is good for the party, and good for a football fan. (although the ravens would probably make this a more dull affair)

I am seriously curious tho,

how did a Scottsman end up watching American football, and then end up a Vikings fan?

Not that there’s a right or wrong answer here, I just figure the train of events is probably interesting…

i dunno, a good old fashioned defense slug out between SF and the Ravens might be awesome!

As for how I became an American Football / Viking fan….

When I was in my teens I used to stay up really late and watch tv and just happened to catch a few Sunday night games just as NFL was catching on here in the UK. Didn’t really understand it but it was pretty fun to watch… I’ve only recently got to grips with the rules etc which has added to the enjoyment.

As for the Vikings, its quite simple. My friend has an uncle who lives in Bloomington, and one summer (maybe 6-7 year ago) we went over and stayed with him and his family – took in the sights and generally spent 3 weeks chilling out in and around Minneapolis. It was awesome!

Then he surprised us with tickets to the Vikings season opener vs Dallas. Getting to see Culpepper throw to Moss was amazing, and the atmosphere was great – think it helped that we won the game! So since then I’ve been loyal to the purple through thick and thin!

A few of my other friends have become interested in NFL recently, so we decide to split a gamepass subscription so I’ve was able to watch every game this year for the first time!

Unfortunately, during our time in Minneapolis we also took in a Twins game – there’s a good few hours of my life I won’t get back! Sorry but that’s one American sport I just don’t get!

Hopefully we’ll be able to get over some time in the next few year and take in another game (maybe in the new stadium) – until then i’ll make do with the gamepass and maybe i’ll get lucky and the Vikings might play the Rams in London one year….

niiiice

I liked everything in your story except dallas was in it. God I hate dallas. If they loose for fifty years straight, I’ll still hate them.

anyhoo-
Have an awesome party – and happy Championship Sunday!

Oh, and Moss was a beast…
