spielmans offense and why he will pick a LT
spielman has been slowly but surely making this offense all his picks.using a 1st and 2nd on almost every phase
QB 1st rd ponder ,6 rd webb(great value)
RB 1st all day,2nd gerhart possibly the best tandem in football(injuries not withstanding)
WR 1ST percy harvin,2nd sydney rice(injury prone so we replaced him with jenkins)
TE 1st none taken(shancoe),2nd rudolph( decent talent)
OL 1ST hopefully this years pick,2nd loadholt (possible tackles for years to come, loadholt is in contract year should improve to get paid)

What I get with this is that Spielman goes for "playmakers"...
…rather than building from the inside out. Even our TE pick, Rudolph, is a pass catching phenom (i.e. playmaker potential) but a terrible blocker. I hope this year Spielman bucks the trend and looks to invest heavily on the “inside” of the game. I’d like to see OL, DT, MLB and safeties coming out of this draft or free agency period. Cornerbacks too even though it’s more “outside” than “inside.” We’ve got a lot to do this offseason (and the next one).
Oh, and a good wide receiver would be nice too.

Well you're missing the CB's he took in the quasi first round
But i’m with kc it looks like he drafts the outside first and hopes the inside can be trained up. Actually it makes me worried that he would go for blackmon or Claibourne instead of Kalil or Martin.
The Vikes aren't in a remodeling or reconstruction they are in a burn the place down and start praying they don't mimic the Lions rebuilding process.
He'll take BPA.
That seems to be his motto, save for the last couple years when he stretched to take a QB and the year before with the panic-pick in Cook.
History might suggest he’d be looking at, say, Blackmon over Kalil though. He took Harvin over Oher in the ’09 draft, even though we clearly had a need at RT with Ryan Cook starting.

Yeah I was a little upset about that.
Thought Oher would be a good RT until McMountain stroked out. But looks like Harvin was a better pick after all… Who’d have thought BPA really worked? :)

Rudolph as 'decent' talent?
I hope to revisit this top in a few years when he’s the league’s leading TE. :D

quick question
if LaMichael James is still available at a reasonable time (3rd round?) does anyone else think it would be a decent pick? i would just love to have a running game that had AP’s all-galaxy running, Gerhardt running over people and james running around everyone, along with the possibility of harvin/webb running in special packages. this would take so much pressure of the passing game and if we could build the O-line in the draft and get a corner or a reciever or both in FA this pick would make sense, and james’ injury prone and i could see him going late 2nd to early 3rd

AP/Gerhart/James would be murder on a defense.
Especially if you were to use Gerhart as a hammer, and go for the Oregon offense’s 100 offensive snaps/game. Swapping in 3 great running backs would make that possible to do with all fresh running backs, and the opposing defense might not peel themselves off the field in time for the next week’s game.
and if we ended up getting another 3rd rounder in some kind of trade it would be a great pick. we could run denvers offense with a decent QB

No.
In fact, hell no
If we can't laugh at ourselves, Packer fans will call us crybabies and we will be forced to kick their tooth in. I really don't want to go to jail (again).

i have heard we will get a 3 rd rounder in compensation for sydney rice.I would love that backfield.DREAM BACKFIELD!!!
Too many stars, not enough carries to go around.
are you going to give each RB like 8 carries? that is not enough…. the only way we pick up a new RB is insurance for AP or Getting rid of Gerhardt
well as of now AP wont play until maybe 6 weeks into the season at best, once hes at 100% we could give him 65% of the carries 20% to toby and 15% to lamichael, then once we know AP is back we could always trade toby or lamichael if they preform well. toby could probably start on about half the teams in the league (giants/jets/pats/packers/saints/rams/cards ect)

Thats why I would rather just use Toby full time with Harvin and King filling in
I think we could still find someone in the 3rd round this year that will start for us next year full time in a position with greater need, I.e. Markelle Martin at FS.
of course
then we would just have a speeded up version of the offense’ played a hundred years ago.
Will the Real Thor Please Stand Up ... ?
Why not add Michael Robinson FA from Seattle
It adds a multi-purpose back to compliment AP & Gerhart. Michael just made the Pro Bowl and becomes a free agent this year. A great all around character guy and a team caption who would be a plus for the team.
As a bonus upside – Michael can also pass the football and play QB. Instead of wasting a spot for 3rd string QB, we get a durable multi-purpose guy like Harvin, blocks well, and use the draft to further beef up the Offensive line. An intriguing play situation could be Ponder + Webb + Robinson all in the background and all 3 capable of either throwing the ball or running it.
Just a thought here that could be a great pickup and complementary to the offense.
