Jared Allen Wins The Sporting News Defensive Player Of The Year

Jared Allen has calf-roped another accolade, this one the Defensive Player of the Year, awarded by The Sporting News:

Despite all the losing in Minnesota, Allen stayed focused on producing his best season ever at age 29, giving offensive linemen and quarterbacks fits in the process. With 22 sacks, the Vikings' end was just one shy of breaking Michael Strahan’s NFL record of 22½, and a panel of 632 NFL players, coaches and executives chose him as Sporting News’ defensive player of the year by two votes (113-111) over second-place DeMarcus Ware of the Dallas Cowboys.

I don't know about you guys, but after awhile, Allen was the only player I really focused on when the defense was on the field. And it didn't matter if the Vikes were up by 10 or down by 20, he was just as relentless.

It's nice to see that Allen got some well deserved recognition, and the fact that he beat out DeMarcus Ware by just a couple votes is a testament to how good Allen is and how bad the Vikings were.

Congratulations, JA!

Just think how scary that would be for the opposing DB!

Quite frankly,

by about week 11, 12, all I really felt I had left to root for was a.) Ponder doing well and proving he would be a good QB, and b.) Jared Allen sacking fools left and right and breaking the record.

So close on both… so far on both… G-d if it wasn’t the Minnesota Vikings, eh?

...and those who voted 'moron' were secretly Packer trolls.

Jared Allen Number One!!!!!!!

I thought that Ndamukong Suh would be second.

its “defensive player of the year”, not “whiney over-rated angry mad man of the year” so Suh is out of the question, as is chris cook unfortunatly…

I think Suh's #'s were down this year.

Plus he was actually suspended for poor sportsmanship.

by chaosg on Jan 25, 2012 8:50 PM CST up reply actions

exactly my point, and after he got suspended he whined about “self defense” or whatever he tried to pass it off as and then drove hinself into a tree. even with those two suspended games hes still supposed to be there star, and when your star cant sack QB’s in a division with the vikes bears and packers O-lines but is still hyped then hes overrated

Rumor has it that...

Ndamukong Suh and Nascar driver Kurt Busch attended anger management classes together. Only problem is that now Ndamukong Suh screams at his teammates, and Kurt Busch has been seen stomping on his race car!!!
