Peyton Manning Traded to Vikings !!!!
I got your attention, but now there are rumors of course just rumors that Peyton Manning is being shopped around and one of the teams on the list are the Vikings.
Is it worth the risk, to bring in another end of the road Hall of Famer to quarterback for the Vikings?
I say hell no! please leave this alone and let the rebuilding work without bringing in a quarterback that is at the end of their career. Minnesota too many times has been where quarterbacks go to finish their time in the NFL, lets leave this alone and let Miami or Washington fight this out.
We need to stay the course and don't be fooled by past years of glory, the Indy history scares me though.

Yes or No ?
Were you hoping it happened or not ?

I'd love it.
Even though it would mean spitting in Ponder’s face.
But my first reaction to such a thing would be OH F*CK YES.
Quite frankly...
I’ve seen enough old QB’s here for a year or two. Especially with his price tag when we need a secondary overhaul and plenty of new blood. He would solve our O-line problem himself though… I wouldn’t be infuriated… but I’d be upset.
To compare this to the Favre situation is apples and oranges. Manning has never really had a bad year and I would kill to have Manning tutor ponder for a couple of years.

it's apples and oranges because...
…Favre pretty much knew our system better than the HC. Manning, while intelligent, would need adjusting and hasn’t played for over a year.
it’s time to move on.

Can I buy a vowel...?? +1, Kluwe.
Would be great
but the acquiring Manning says “we’re going for it this year”
Vikings are no longer “a QB away” from a SB run. They need a full rebuild.

In 2009, with a healthy Paton Manning..
the Colts went 14 – 2. This year, without Manning, they were 2 – 14.
Could Payton flip the Vikings to 13 – 3 ?
Only the man upstairs (and Tebow) knows that answer.

Good job using 2009..
How about 2010, when they had Manning and a team that clearly wasn’t up to caliber with the other contenders? (Sort of like our’s.)
At one point they were, if I remember correctly, 5-5 and struggling. They made it to the playoffs that year, sure, only to be one-and-done by the Jets.
No thanks. Manning is a great talent when he’s healthy, and I think he’ll make some team desperate for a QB better.. but this isn’t the ’09 Vikings. Our O-line is in shambles, our secondary is utter shit, and we have no idea if Adrian Peterson will even be able to play up to his normal, or even a quality, level. Trading for Manning would be taking two gigantic steps back.

I agree about the O-line.
I was just posing a question. Not really pulling for Manning.
In the last few years the Vikings have been good at hiring “end of their career” QB’s. Got lucky getting that one good year out of Favre, though It probably would have been two good years with a better O-line.

It probably would have been two good years
with Sidney Rice, too. Losing him for half the season hurt us bad. More so, I think, than the O-line. We had to absolutely scramble to try and get some kind of passing attack back because Rice decided to wait so damn long for surgery.
We made not one but two trades for WRs because of him.

At some point the rebuild has to happen…it keeps getting delayed. I think if you guys do this right, you can be back in contention in like 2 years. You have the (potentially) QB already in place, you need a couple key positions and you’ll be back on the rise.
Going after Manning will only delay this and I just don’t see the team making a SB run, even with him. How many draft picks will it cost??
The Green Bay Packers...Putting bad coaches out of their misery since 2010
When do we find out if Manning is cleared to play ?
After hearing Manning speak in a couple different interviews, I wouldn’t be surprised if he retired.
He’s made a lot of money and it doesn’t sound like he’s going to take any chances with his health.
I think Manning will need to hear a very good report from his DR’s before he takes the field again.
Where is this rumor from?
I tend to keep up on the rumors, and have never heard mention of the Vikings and Peyton Manning in the same sentence.
Bleacher Report
Stating that ESPNs Mike and Mike that the Minnesota Vikings would be a good suitor for Peyton Manning. Among others Tennessee Titan, San Francisco 49ers and Miami .
by BleedPurple60 on Jan 27, 2012 2:21 PM CST up reply actions
The 49ers would make a lot of sense...
However the Vikings have quite a few holes and I’d really wouldn’t want to see them give up high picks in this draft to attain him. That being said, if they would make a deal for Payton I would be excited to see him in a Viking uniform and see how far he could take them.
LOL!!
Bleacher report? That isn’t a news source. Its like someone citing a rumor on here (no offense) or any blog site. The Bleacher Report is a total joke as a news source! And citing an opinion on Mike and Mike isn’t even a rumor its an opinion.

Behind our o-line
It would be a sure fire way for him to be on his way for a 4th neck surgery. I’m tired of older QB’s, I would really like an open competition between Webb and Ponder.

My initial reaction was 'this was stupid'
No, no, a thousand times no. Give Christian Ponder an offensive line and one or two more weapons on offense. We don’t need another thity-sonething stopgap at QB for a year or two.

We have not realized what Brett has done to our team 2 or 3 years later. Yes we were “ALL IN” of ’09. At the moment it was so good to be a Viking fan. Was it worth it tho is the big question. To me…..hard to say. Ya it was fun, ya it was nice to see our team go deep into the playoffs, ya it was a thrilling ride to watch every single game and see the score bored near 27+ points a game……but now look where we are. We had the #12 pick, now the #3 pick….whats next? Hear me out with this…
Patriots have Tom Brady, Saints have Brees, Eagles have Vick (when he is not hurt) GB has some guy named Rodgers, Detroit has some guy name Stafford that FINALLY did something with his life…….
Brady has one of the BEST o-lines in the game, Payton had a GREAT O-line (beings he throws the ball in 2 seconds) Brees has a above grade OLine….you see where im going here….
WE NEED A O-LINE BEFORE WE CAN HAVE ANY QB!!!!!!! Who can throw the ball 30-45 yards down the field if he is running for his life EVERY damn play?!?
We dont need a OLD QB…as much as I hate to say that…in Payton. Favre broke his “streak” of games played behind our oline. Theres a good trophy to hold up! NOT!
GET A OLINE BEFORE GETTING A QB!
Meanwhile...
LMAO! Hopefully this will get Wilf off the hook for some cash!

This is false advertising
I think that the questions to be asked are, is Payton Manning a free agent or would the Vikings have to trade for him? Second, would the young quarterbacks develop better with or without a year behind Payton? What’s better long term? If the Vikings have to give up draft picks, its definitely not worth it. The Vikings are probably better off just upgrading the offensive line. I tried to post this earlier and it wouldn’t send.
Peyton will either stay with the Colt's or be released because of his giant bonus.
If he’s released he won’t be signing with the Vikings as he’ll sign with a team that can actually make a SuperBowl run next year. I’d guess that Manning will end up with the Jets, Dolphins, or maybe the Seahawks if he’s released.
Likely won't be the Dolphins.
They’re aiming for Matt Flynn. It could be the Seahawks, but the Jets do have the best defense of the 3, and they have some decent weapons in the passing game. The pressure wouldn’t solely be on Manning there.
by REVENGE4KLUWE on Jan 27, 2012 11:13 PM CST up reply actions
So far the only semi-legitimate rumors I've read have linked him to the Jets, Dolphins, and Cardinals.
In my opinion the only one that makes much sense is the Jets because they kind of fit the mold of being a great QB away from a serious run at a title. Other than the Jets there aren’t really any contending type teams that don’t already have a good QB. The only other spots I could see him going would be to KC, DEN, SEA, or ARZ to take advantage of the weak west divisions but I think they’d be a last resort for him. In any event I can’t see any scenario that involves Manning coming to the Vikings short of Dungy coming aboard : )
by CanadianViking on Jan 28, 2012 12:49 AM CST up reply actions
He might be pretty good on the Cardinals too
Now, granted they don’t have the same kind of defense as the Jets, but you saw the drop-off they had since Warner. They still have Fitzgerald, who makes that offense go, and their defense is just as good as it was then. They could make some noise with Peyton Manning, and then he wouldn’t have to face Brady twice a year.
by REVENGE4KLUWE on Jan 28, 2012 1:44 AM CST up reply actions
As stated earlier
I think the 49ers might make the most sense. A really good defense, good running game and a coach that has turned things around – they too are in a weak division. My guess is they won’t win as many games next year as this past year – with Peyton however they may win more and/or go further in the playoffs.
I doubt that Peyton would go to 49ers...
Alex Smith was the first player taken in the 2005 draft, and it looks like things are starting to click. Alex looked pretty good in the playoffs.
Exactly
Alex Smith is there. They wouldn’t trade or sign Peyton, not after he took them to the NFC Championship Game. He didn’t exactly light up the scoreboard, but he certainly wasn’t the reason they lost.
by REVENGE4KLUWE on Jan 30, 2012 1:00 PM CST up reply actions
well he DID only complete one pass to a WR the entire championship game so part of the blame is certainly on his shoulders.
The Green Bay Packers...Putting bad coaches out of their misery since 2010
And yet they still made it to OT
It was the special teams turn-overs that did them in, not Smith. The Giants took away his WRs, he was make due with what he was given. They really need more weapons in the passing game though, yes.

I think Denver/Jets makes the most sense
Both of those teams have an A) Strong Running Game and B) A strong defense.
If he went to the AFC West, he’d have the benefit of playing in a division where an 8-8 record can get you into the playoffs. Denver’s recievers are as good as the Jets, but I’d say they have a much better O-line, which would be best for Peyton coming off the injury. And it buys the Broncos an extra year to figure out what to do at QB.
by REVENGE4KLUWE on Jan 30, 2012 4:37 PM CST up reply actions
How about the Seahawks?
They have a pretty decent team, although Bevel may still try to start TJ in front of Payton.
The Vikes aren't in a remodeling or reconstruction they are in a burn the place down and start praying they don't mimic the Lions rebuilding process.
They're decent, yeah
I think Peyton would rather be behind the Denver O-line though. Plus they have better/less injured weapons to throw to. Add that on top of a strong running game, and that offense is just a good QB away from bringing the heat. We saw what it could do against the Steelers when Tebow was playing even decently.
Plus I’d take that defense over the ’Hawks.
by REVENGE4KLUWE on Jan 31, 2012 10:56 AM CST up reply actions
Yeah but Denver has Tebow
And for some ungodly reason he’s the new hope. The Seahawks have.. yeah no one. Their line isn’t bad at all and if they are going for Payton they can draft with that in mind. I just don’t see Denver backing out on Tebow after the year he had.
The Vikes aren't in a remodeling or reconstruction they are in a burn the place down and start praying they don't mimic the Lions rebuilding process.
I dunno.
Tebow certainly isn’t a Manning. If they had the chance to get a healthy Peyton Manning, I think Elway would say ‘Tim Who?’

speculation in TN
Is that he will come to Titans for a few years and then go to the Vols to cut his teeth in coaching.

Trade up Draft Luck
than Sign Peyton, and somehow keep our 3rd pick and draft RGIII. Now the Colts would be pissed.

Too old. Too hurt. Too expensive.

No thanks we already tried the father in Archie, Vikes need to develope what they have right now, NO MORE AGING VETERANS.
Only if the price is no higher than a 3rd round pick
We don’t know how good Manning will still be after his injury and this much time off. If he was still a QB God, why would the Colts be considering letting him go, just to take a flyer on Luck?
Even if he still has all his previous talent, the Vikings don’t have an O-line that can protect him. If he’s really worried about his health, he’ll retire before considering going to the Vikings.
The Vikings have two good QB prospects right now, without a #1 WR and a hurt AD and a porous O-line, I think the offense has bigger issues to address.

still one of the best
Are u kidding me…Petting still one of the elites if healthy…he is not Donovan Mcnabb….our stars are not getting younger and window is closing. PEYTON WITH Adrian and Percy are u kidding me. HE WOULD BE A GREAT TEACHER FOR Ponder as well…this is a no brained…don’t let the past influence your comments…remember Fahrenheit took us one throw and kick from the superbowl
We heard the same before
Favre would be a great mentor for Jackson
Favre is gone, Jackson is gone (thankfully) and we have a team in disarray. Let’s not make the same mistake again so quickly. Ponder and Webb will be just fine.

Not what I was going at
In one case, 2 years ago, we needed a veteran, be it Favre or even a Manning if you did the Time Warp Again……but now, with two young QB’s, we don’t need a mentor nor a veteran, Manning, Favre or Tarkenton. Thats what I was trying to mean. Wasnt doing a side by side in this case.

Rip Van Winkle moment
our stars are not getting younger and window is closing.
Did you go into a long slumber after the 2009 season? The only way that window is still open is if it’s being used by veterans looking to jump and end the misery of the 2010/2011 campaigns.
Peyton Manning can’t save us from ourselves. We are a bad team that has been allowed to rot from the inside out. We need starting quality help across the O-line, WR, TE, DT, MLB, both safeties, and anywhere from 1 to 3 cornerbacks. Peyton would just be a major distraction for a team that needs to get better and younger over the next two seasons.
"Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain." - Lily Tomlin
No, no and hell no
Much has already been said about the issue that I can repeat. From the no more aging QB, will he even play again, no O-line to protect an already fragile QB. And Im sorry, the whole Mentoring Ponder or Webb thing don’t float. We tried that already, as I just responded to one, where did that get us? Both QB’s gone and a team crumbling. We have more pressing needs then QB. As the saying goes, and can’t be further from the truth for us……
Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it

Manning is looking to make 28 million sometime SOON
Honestly there is no way the Colts are paying that if they are picking up Luck. He’s got a neck injury and I doubt any other team out there is going to be paying out that much for him. This means trade is probably out of the question for the Colts. Instead you’ll see him let go and either retire (which he has hinted too) or find another team and work a deal out with them.
The Vikes aren't in a remodeling or reconstruction they are in a burn the place down and start praying they don't mimic the Lions rebuilding process.
The Colts won't trade him.
They are not going to pay him the $28 million roster bonus and then trade him. They can not trade him until the new league year which would happen AFTER the roster bonus is due.
He’s either a Colt or a free agent. Most likely a free agent.
Actually if he's not a Colt then he's going to retire
by midnightwonder on Feb 1, 2012 7:47 AM CST up reply actions
Idk if he actually will
He might take a year off to try if he’s not ready to go by the start of this season, but if his neck heals.. He’s going to have the itch to play, if he was ready to retire he wouldn’t be trying to get healthy so aggressively. And the Colts aren’t going to just let him back in after they have Luck (assuming Luck doesn’t, you know.. suck..)
He’ll pretty much be Favre’d at that point.
