Which College Players Are Future Vikings Week 8 Review and Week 9 Primer

Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

There were some good games. Looks like West Virginia may not have been as good as expected after all. South Carolina too. Notre Dame, Georgia, & Louisville hung on to win. Florida State pulled away in the 4th quarter. TCU and Texas Tech had quite a shootout with a lot of the scoring coming in overtime. Texas and Baylor also had a shootout. Texas must not be as good as expected either. Cincinnati and Iowa State are definitely disappointed.

I now am going to add a new category. Player of the Week.

I think it is an easy call this week for sure ...

Collin Klein QB Kansas State who completed 19 out of 21 passes for 323 yards and 3 TDs. He also rushed for 41 yards on 12 carries with 4 TDs. Wow!

Honorable mention goes to ...

Kasey Carrier RB Mex Mexico who rushed for 338 yards on 39 carries and had 3 TDs.
Dan Molls LB Toledo who had 13 tackles and 1 pass deflection in Toledo's upset win over Cincinnati

I am listing some performances of some of the top players below. I might not have them all here so feel free to add a player who you think did really well and may have vaulted themselves up the draft boards.

Which games will you be watching and which players do you think would be great Vikings?

Here is my weekly mock. The Vikings gritted out a win this week thanks to some awesome running by Adrian Peterson and some good defense against a bad QB. They are starting to look very good in terms of making the playoffs which was unbelievable prior to the season. At least it was to me. I know some homers were saying they would make it but there really was not any tangible evidence that they could turn it around this fast.

Please do not tell me about how they lost so many close games last year therefore it should translate to this year. I say hogwash. Their are several new starters and they are playing different teams thus making that argument irrelevant. It sounds good but unless the Vikings were like the 49ers who returned all 11 starters on defense and their entire offensive line, QB, TE, RBs, plus a couple of WRs then it is not the same team.

But now we are 5-2 which is fantastic and how or why does not matter. I think they better win at least 8 games at this point. This week we have Tampa at home which is a winnable game. I think we will have to play much better offensively than we did last week and the run defense will need to improve too. But I think the Vikings can and should win this game.

Then they have Seattle on the road in a very hostile and loud environment. That is going to be tough. I like the Vikings chances at homes vs the Kitties the following week too. Although Detroit will be desperate to win and that always is a factor. The Vikings should act just as desperate IMO.

Then the real meat and potatoes of the schedule begins. Chicago, Green Bay, and then Chicago again. Let's say the Vikings are 6-3 heading into that 3 game critical stretch. They need to get at least one of those.

They then play at St Louis and at Houston before finishing up with Green Bay. I am hoping for a win in St Louis but winning on the road is not easy.

It is going to be fun!

I am going to go with #24 this week in my mock.

Another new mock. I have to keep changing it up.

Obviously I like Woods a lot. I hope that the people that judge the draft prospects cause Woods to "fall". I think he would be fantastic.

Vacarro is a very nice safety and is probably not going to be there at #54. He and TJ McDonald are more than likely going in the first or early second round especially after the success the Vikings have had (thus far) with Harrison Smith. Considering the need for good safeties in the NFL it is a long shot. But you never know.

I like Hunt a lot. I think he will probably weigh in close to 290 at the combine. Just a hunch. He reminds me of a Chris Canty or Calais Campbell. I think his best football is definitely ahead of him.

Skov is a risk since he has had a significant injury already and really goes against what I always talk about. But he has the size that Speilman likes in his LBs.

Logan Ryan is playing well this year and also has good size. The Vikings have to continually add corners since Winfield is porbably done after next year.

Mellette is a very good WR with good size. He has excelled at Elon and could make the transition.

I had to grab one defensive tackle. It is late to grab one but Williams is dominating at Missouri Southern State. I like Chris Jones from Bowling Green a lot too. By the end of the year this could change depending on how are current tackles perform the rest of the year.

I think Barner could go higher but he is not a bad change of pace type of back. I am not sure what will happen with Todman.

Pough is a tackling machine at Howard.

The UDFAs are the usual suspects although I did change it up a little.

Well there it is. I hope that you can watch your team(s) and provide some feedback on players you think that can make it in the NFL
