Which College Players Are Future Vikings Week 13 Review and Week 14 Primer - Late

Scott Cunningham

The first thirteen weeks of college football are in the books. All that is left are the conference games before the bogus bowl game matchups are set. There were some upsets for teams ranked in the teens and beyond. Arizona, Washington, Rutgers, Louisville, and Texas all lost. Most of the SEC teams played cupcakes as usual. Why do I not have a surprised feeling? Game of the week goes to Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State.

The Player of the Week is another tough call this week.

Landry Jones was 46 of 71 for 500 yards with 3 TDs and 1 INT
Sean Renfree was 36 of 59 for 432 yards with 4 TDs and 0 INT
James Lark was 34 of 50 for 384 yards with 6 TDs and 0 INT
Le'Veon Bell rushed for 266 yards on 35 carries with 1 TD
Kenjon Barner rushed for 198 yards on 28 carries with 2 TDs
Theo Riddick rushed for 146 yards on 20 carries with 1 TD
Cody Hoffman caught 12 passes for 182 yards with 5 TDs
Darrin Moore caught 13 passes for 186 yards with 2 TDs

But the winner goes to ...

Theo Riddick & Kenjon Barner

I am listing some performances of some of the top players below. I might not have them all here so feel free to add a player who you think did really well and may have vaulted themselves up the draft boards.

Which games will you be watching and which players do you think would be great Vikings?

Here is my weekly mock. The Vikings are coming off a bad loss vs the Bears with another tough perfromance from Ponder. The wide receivers let him down for the most part. Right now the Vikings are still the 8th seed if the playoffs started today and would not be in the dance. The way they played this past week does not give one much confidence. I am thinking they will finsih with a 7-9 record. I am to go stick with #14 for now though since there are already 12 other teams with 7 losses.

I have two pre-trades in this mock.

Trade 1. The Vikings trade Toby Gerhart to Cincinnati for a 3rd round pick which is #80 right now
Trade 2. The Vikings trade Everson Griffen to San Francisco for a 3rd round pick which is #91 right now.

14. Jesse Williams DT Alabama Sr 6-3 320
44. Ezekiel Ansah DE Brigham Young Sr 6-5 270
76. Quinton Patton WR Louisiana Tech rSr 6-2 195

I had to put Williams as my first pick because he is a guy who is just solid. Although this is late posting, Williams played well last night vs Georgia. I liked him better than Jenkins. Jenkins was OK but did not dominate as much as I wanted to see.

Then, considering the trade of Griffen, I wanted to grab the prospect who is rising up boards very very fast. Ansah is a very interesting player. I think it may take a trade up to get him too.

Patton has been one of my favorite WRs this year. Obviously getting a LB would be nice and which one is a matter of preference.

I wanted to add Glennon because Webb could leave after next year and MBT is an unknown at this point in time although there are some posters who feel he can step into a real game and do something if Ponder went down. Why? I do not know. Glennon is a big QB and had a very good arm. I think we need someone to groom just in case Ponder does not improve.

Taylor is a CB prospect that does not get much pub but is playing very well. He has good szie and is fast.

Barner is obviously playing well and would be a nice replacement for Toby. They lost Todman so getting a change of pace back is not a bad idea. I also like Robbie Rouse from Fresno State.

Harper is a good size WR in the Burton mold as far as size goes.

I like Thomas a lot and Jones too. Then I wanted to add even another WR because I think we need almost a complete overhaul.

I will say that trading Toby and Everson are things I would try to do if I was GM. I think that they will both want to get more playing time. Toby is not getting any reps and is wasting away on the bench. It is the reason why I say he is a bust (for the Vikings) because they used a 2nd AND 3rd round pick to go get him in the 2010 draft. Imagine if they took Morgan Burnett FS, Navorro Bowman LB, Erci Decker WR, or Jon Asamoah G in the second round and Jimmy Graham TE, Aaron Hernandez TE, Mike Williams WR, or Joe McKnight RB with those two picks instead.

Griffen is a player that may or may not be able to produce if he is given the majority of snaps. He has shown the ability to be productive in his limited snaps from whereever they line him up. I would love to trade Allen instead but there are just too many homers who cannot handle trading him for some reason. Maybe they have his jersey or something? IDK. I really think he is untradeable at this point. His contract is way too much next year and if he does not agree to an extension prior to a trade then he is practically impossible to move. The Vikings will just have to redo his contract in the offseason adding a few years. Then we will see if the homers are right and he can be good well into his 30's. So Griffen will have to go because I think they will lose him anyway. I'd rather get a pick now than wait and hope for a compensatory pick in 2015.

Well there it is. I hope that you can watch your team(s) and provide some feedback on players you think that can make it in the NFL
