The Vikings have three players at the top or second place in fan voting for the Pro Bowl at their respective position. . All Pro is the honor all players strive for in the most popular sport.
Our top fan vote getting players:
Adrian Peterson - NFL leading rusher 1812 yards with two games left
Jared Allen - a 9 sack year with many double teams and chip blocks
Our top players getting the snobby snub :
Blair Walsh - 29 of 32 field goals, ties an NFL record with 8 FG's 50 yards +, set Viking rookie scoring record
Longwell hasn't surfaced with a team this season and seems to have moved on from football altogether. But after seeing Walsh break the NFL record for field goals of at least 50 yards in a season (nine), Longwell tweeted: "I've purposely not commented on any football stuff this entire year so let me make my first one now. I've seen many great seasons go unrewarded by not getting voted to Pro Bowl. But if @BlairWalsh3 does not get voted in this year it will prove system is broke! What more can the guy do?? Accuracy, 9-9 50+ yarders, Kickoff touchbacks and a game winner in his first career game!!" Indeed, Walsh is tied for second in the NFL with 32 field goals (in 35 attempts). He ranks sixth in the NFL in conversion percentage (91.4), but only two of the place-kickers ahead of him play for NFC teams. Finally, Walsh ranks third in touchback percentage (62.0)
Jerome Felton - Peterson 7.7 yard average with Felton, 3.6 yard per carry without Felton
John Sullivan - PFF's top rated center this season
Chad Greenway - 140 tackles leading the NFL and 3 sacks
Antoine Winfield - PFF's third ranked run stopper at cornerback, 3rd best cornerback overall
You can debate this any way you want because two-thirds of the voting power has to be added to the tally before the official team is announced on Dec. 26th. Still time to make corrections but if the fans miss it by that much.... won't the coaches and players too?
Frazier is in the process of getting a contract extension deal done so it looks like the last two games aren't going to impact management in a big way. Lets cheer the Vikings on against the Texans as they strive to make the playoffs.
