Longwell Speaks out for Walsh. Practice Squad Moves.

Ryan Longwell had a respectful breakup with the Vikings. The front office did what they could under tense circumstances by giving an early release so as he might find a spot on another team (a classy move). His time was up as he didn't catch on anywhere else. Vikings went all in with Blair Walsh. Longwell had these kind words to say about his replacement:

After seeing Walsh break the NFL record for field goals of at least 50 yards in a season (nine), Longwell tweeted: "I've purposely not commented on any football stuff this entire year so let me make my first one now. I've seen many great seasons go unrewarded by not getting voted to Pro Bowl. But if @BlairWalsh3 does not get voted in this year it will prove system is broke! What more can the guy do?? Accuracy, 9-9 50+ yarders, Kickoff touchbacks and a game winner in his first career game!!" Indeed, Walsh is tied for second in the NFL with 32 field goals (in 35 attempts). He ranks sixth in the NFL in conversion percentage (91.4), but only two of the place-kickers ahead of him play for NFC teams. Finally, Walsh ranks third in touchback percentage (62.0)

Well stated Mr. Longwell. Why he has not purposely commented remains a mystery? The other 2/3 rds of the votes have been tallied and the All-Pro team will be announced later today.

The good news is Walsh has made the Probowl as a rookie which is no easy task. Knocked out that kid the rams have as the Legatron. Congratulations Blair Walsh.

Changes on the Practice Squad, Just random moves or is this telling us something.

We lose Jordan Todman (Nov. 27) to the Jaguars, signed off the practice squad which started the movements. The Viking's signed running back Joe Banyard a rookie from UTEP .

Chris Cook comes off IR and there was shuffling on the team. Allen Reisner gets cut in the process and picked up and signed by, yes Jacksonville. They know where the talent has been stockpiled. Mark Asper got picked up by Jacksonville too. I missed it but at some point MBT was moved up to the 53 man roster so someone thinks enough of him to protect him from poachers. At tackle, Harvin was replaced on the 53 man roster by Troy Kropog a fourth round pick of the Titans in 2009.

Vikings sign tight end Chase Ford out of the University of Miami to the practice squad (Dec. 26th). George Johnson (tight end) moved up to the 53 man squad on Saturday.

We have tried out Reisner for two seasons. I thought he played well when given the opportunity. I'm sure the FO thought they could re-sign him but he rightfully got picked up by another team that could use his talent.

Lots of activity at tight end which means somebody is not happy with the status on the roster.

The team hasn't made the moves late in the season like they did last year. I'm not sure if we have been raided or if we are pro-active. Maybe these guys were never going to make the 53 man roster. I didn't try to list all the moves on our practice squad. The jaguars nabbed 3 of our players which is a point of interest. All the tight end activity makes me raise an eyebrow. MarkSP18 called for the upgrading process to start a couple of weeks ago and that has not happened to date.
