When Percy Harvin was placed on injured reserve earlier this week, it was speculated that although he was hurt, there might have been more to it than that.
He has had run-ins with Vikings brass in the past (former coach Brad Childress in 2010, and he demanded to be traded earlier this year) and there were rumors floating about that Harvin's attitude had as much to do with his season being over as his ankle injury.
Leslie Frazier tried to squash those rumors yesterday. When asked if there was anything more to Harvin being put on IR, Frazier emphatically said no.
Still, the Vikings are going to have to ask some hard questions about Harvin moving into the off-season. He is one of the most electrifying players in the NFL, and has sacrificed his body in four years with the Vikings, and has now landed on IR for the first time in his career.
His past incidents with the team will be factored in to whether or not to sign him to a long term contract extension...but so will his ridiculous playmaking ability. The team runs the risk of his behavior going full on diva if he does get the big payday, but they're almost guaranteed to have a passing offense that's worse than it is now if they don't sign him.
I'm glad I'm not GM Rick Spielman on this one.
