We've Got Paton-Mania Running Wild, Brother
A couple hours ago, I gave you a report that said that the job of General Manager with the St. Louis Rams was down to either Minnesota Vikings director of player personnel George Paton or Atlanta Falcons director of player personnel Les Snead, and that the job was Paton's to lose.
Well. . .he's lost it. But in a good way, according to the Vikings' official website.
The Vikings have announced that George Paton has been promoted to Assistant General Manager of the Club.
Over the past couple of weeks, the St. Louis Rams had courted Paton to serve as the Rams new General Manager. Paton decided late Friday that he wanted to remain with the Vikings organization.
So, congratulations to Les Snead on his new position as the St. Louis Rams' General Manager, it appears.
In the short-term, I suppose that keeping Paton around would prevent the Rams from getting any insight into the Vikings' draft strategy, such as it would be at this point (before the Combine and Pro Days and free agency and stuff). Hopefully it will turn out to be a good long-term thing as well.

That's awesome,
I’m glad we moved him to assistant GM, he obviously knows what he’s doing. Good move by the Vikings.

Perhaps
This would also put the heat on Spielman even more. If he sucks, maybe Paton would be in a better position to replace him, now that he’s “Assistant General Manager” and all. I hope Spielman does great, but if I were Spielman, this might worry me a bit.
Ponder. Peterson. Percy. Purple Perfection.
Spielman promoted him.
but I think Paton’s in place to replace him if he doesn’t perform well.

Well
It IS pronounced like “Peyton,” as opposed to “Patton.”
