In Memoriam - Whitney Houston, the greatest National Anthem singer in S.B. history.
As many may be aware, or perhaps not, Whitney Houston was found dead this afternoon in L.A. at the age of 48. A very young age if you ask me. Immediately, the first thought of her, was of the National Anthem just before Super Bowl XXV. A moment that has always wowed me, as with many others. Especially at the time, the first Gulf War. I had several cousins over there, so it hit home for me. The second memory, was when my sisters took me with them to Riverfest in St. Paul when she had a concert that evening. At the time, yeah, I kinda hoped the rest of my head banging buddies weren't there. But I will admit, I was happy to get to see her, and what an awesome voice she had. Never did thank them for that. That was a few years before the Super Bowl performance. Enjoy this little tidbit from that Super Bowl I was able to find. (With a little help from Chris) If you never saw or heard it, take a moment to now. She will always be remembered as a part of Super Bowl history.
Farewell and Godspeed Whitney

Hey, VFNM
I put the video for the anthem at the end of your post. For some reason, it had a bunch of jibberish at the end where I assume you meant to put the video or something.
Not sure why it would have done that, but the video is there now.

My favorite rendition by far
And one by which all others should be measured. I remember the hair on the back of my neck standing up when Whitney sang this.
I wish all artists would see that, when it comes to the Star Spangled Banner, less is truly more!
Same here.

It’s a shame what her lifestyle did to her voice and to her life.

Wow. Talk about nailing it!
That’s a nice tribute to Country & Football. You will be missed Whitney.

Special Place
Her rendition of the National Anthem holds a special place in my memory. I was in Iraq at the time and there was the buzz around the site about her singing it, our Commander some how got a tape of it a while later and we were able to hear it just prior to a rough mission. It was extremely motivating for us and still to this day is awesome. Thank you from the soldiers of the 2nd 75th SF.
