2012 WIDE RECIEVERS
1 d bowe free agent pick up
2 m jenkins good possession reciever,great blocker
3 p harvin one of the best slot recievers/running reciever in football
4 comp draft pick(marvin mcnutt) young talent to groom for future
5 burton/aromashudo good back-up special teams performer/developemental project
what do you all think any sugestions we could go cheaper with free agent pick up.meachum, garcon and manningham could all be picked up cheaper. My preference would be garcon in that situation.I am from iowa so mcnutt is my choice but there are many other options with the draft pick.I want us to use the comp pick for sydney rice to draft a wide out.

I actually like a Bowe-Jenkins tandem on the field.
I think they’d compliment each other’s skill sets nicely. Then you toss in Percy Harvin? If only Peterson hadn’t hurt his knee. If he gets back to 100%, that will be a pretty good offense. Possibly better than ’09 in terms of depth/talent at WR.
I like the idea of Bowe-Jenkins and Percy BUT
without ever a serviceable O-line, who cares? Don’t get me wrong, I would be excited to pick up Bowe but damn would it suck to have all this skill position talent with no O-Line.

O-line talent should be easier to find than skill position talent
That’s why skill position players get paid so much more. Obviously we’d have to go through the draft (since good O-linemen rarely hit FA), but its, statistically, easier to find them than another Vincent Jackson or Dwayne Bowe.

hrm I wonder who makes more money, Hutch or Sydney Rice right now...
or a LT compared to just about any other position… Stars make money no matter where they play.
The Vikes aren't in a remodeling or reconstruction they are in a burn the place down and start praying they don't mimic the Lions rebuilding process.
No
Bowe is great and I’d love to have him in purple, but I doubt he can be what Sidney Rice was in 2009 with a young QB and a worse offensive line.
If we can't laugh at ourselves, Packer fans will call us crybabies and we will be forced to kick their tooth in. I really don't want to go to jail (again).

But you can say the same thing about any other FA WR.
Sidney Rice did what he did in ’09 because he had a HOF QB throwing him the ball, of course Bowe is not going to put up the kind of season Sid had that year in the coming season.
But that does not mean that he won’t do it the year after. We are looking to sign someone for more than just one year.
And the O-line should be addressed in the Draft and/or FA.
Duh to your first two points...
I was responding to

So we basically agree on we won’t have a 2009 offense next year.
While we should be drafting Kahlil (or Martin/Reiff if we do trade down) and picking some depth in FA, Kahlil should struggle for a while against NFL DE’s, Loadholt is a big liability in pass blocking and Hutch is slipping too; so I still think we’ll have a mediocre line at best next year.

Honestly it depends on what we do
If we do pick up Kalil that will probably help us out in two spot as Johnson goes to Herrera’s spot. I’m not saying Johnson is better than Herrera when Herrera was healthy, but it’s been a while since that man’s been healthy and I think Johnson can do a better job. Loadholt/Love hopefully Load realizes there is a guy in the wings for his job and uses the off season to practice up on his drop step and vision. Sully seems to be getting a lot of love from the analysts so I kind of have to think he’s improving add to that the contract the Vikes gave him and I think they see it too. That leaves Hutch, which might be handled through free agencies (as losing him opens up a whoopin 8 million this year for another guard to step into.) If not at least we’ve improved on two of our positions of need. I just hope Kalil can step into the NFL off the bat. Heck we might have Johnson out there with Kalil on the right for the beginning of the year.
The Vikes aren't in a remodeling or reconstruction they are in a burn the place down and start praying they don't mimic the Lions rebuilding process.
Getting Kalil could help improve three positions on the line.
As you mentioned Kalil would be better than Johnson at LT and he would allow Johnson to upgrade the RG spot. Even Loadholt could be significantly better because having a LT that isn’t an absolute turnstile like Johnson would allow the TEs and RBs to give help to Loadholt on passing downs, which he got much less of this year due to Johnson’s craptitude.

always have to one up me don't you
Dang Canadians!

LOADHOLT
he is in a contract year and nothing motivates like the all mighty dollar.kalil, fusco, sullivan, herrera(i think he will be better with an offseason to train instead of re hab)and loadholt would be better then this year.and if we keep johnson that would be even better yet!!
Kalil could get better faster because
he will be practicing across from JA every day, and will have to pick it up on the fly or get burned daily. Any LT we draft will get better quicker cuz they will be practicing against the best, and will have every opportunity to get better.
Great point

Doesn't make him less talented.
A Bowe/Jenkins/Harvin combo is much better than Rice/Berrian/Harvin. By alot.
I didn’t say they’d produce like our WRs did in ’09, but it will be a better group. Which is what a young, struggling QB needs to help him out.

bowe/ jenkins
at least percy can go into slot where he is deadly and i feel they all can/will block for A P and Toby if they come back from injuries. And it can free up rudolph to destroy the seams.
There's another free agent wide receiver out there ...
According to ESPN wide receiver Randy Moss wants to return to the NFL. Who better to stretch the field? No more of Childress using him as a decoy. No more Childress completely ignoring Randy’s suggestions. Are the Vikings still being catered by Tinucci’s??
Moss is washed up - get over it - move on
by aceinthecorner on Feb 13, 2012 5:34 PM CST up reply actions
If "washed up " means still running 4.3's and finally healed up and healthy.
But yeah , Moss won’t be coming back.
I don't think he's washed up..
He was still producing pretty well when he was on the field and getting the ball, even for us in ’10.
But he’s definitely not going to be coming back here. He’s going to want to go to the Patriots or possibly… Texans? An Andre Johnson/Randy Moss duo has to sound sexy to Schuab.
I can’t really think of any other team that seems just a piece or two away from making a serious run. Maybe the Ravens, I guess.

....... WTF
Noooooo. Why did you even put this thought into my head? Here I was, sitting in blissful ignorance..
Moss better not join the Bears. Ugh. Yuck. Dirty. Don’t do it, Randy!

Yeah seeing Moss against our pitiful excuse of a secondary would be more than I could take.

Im not quite sold yet
On Marvin McNads. Im anxious to see what wr we might get our grubby mits on in the drizaft.

Yeah, that was a bad showing.
It would be a much better line-up for Ponder though. If only Peterson hadn’t gotten injured. Bowe had his best season when teams were focusing on Jamaal Charles.

Bowe's talent & other misc. :
I saw a lot of responses wanting Dwayne Bowe.
While he is a very talented WR, posting good stats for having a mediocre QB, he’s had motivation issues…
I would be half afraid of that. There is a possibility that he has matured since his previous outbursts, and if it is decided that is true, then I’m all for that too…
I think if the Steelers were to drop Hines Ward, he would be a great pickup. His skill set has definitely declined, but he will still be average to above average, reliable & a fantastic blocker when needed. He is the most physical WR in the NFL. I kinda admire that in the game of football. There is word that if the Steelers aren’t willing to re-structure his contract, he may just retire… Making this point moot.
Garcon – He’s definitely had his flashes… But what WR that played with Peyton Manning didn’t… I would be deathly afraid of overpaying him.
Drafting a WR… Please say NO to Alshon Jeffery…. How many South Carolina WR’s are we going to persue?… I’ve had enough of them to last a lifetime…
There are a good deal of WR’s out there that could supplement our team.
I am on board with McNutt…
I also like (personally):
Nick Toon – Wisconsin
Juron Criner – Arizona
Mohamed Sanu – Rutgers
Dwight Jones – North Carolina
Jermaine Kearse – Washington
James Rodgers – Oregon State (history of knee injuries – last resort kinda guy – mad skills)
nick toon
does anybody know any info on his re- hab and how his injury is progressing.I like him if he isnt too hurt. Mcnutt, toon, criner and sanu would all be great with me but i would wait till 4 rd to draft wr,we have too many holes to adress before that!!
Really??
No one else is jumping on board with the nickname Marvin McNadd?
by IL PurpleRain on Feb 14, 2012 6:14 PM CST via mobile reply actions
Its too close too McNabb.
And thus draws up painful memories of our 1-5 start.
