Fight! Fight! Cris Carter And Randy Moss Exchange Words
Love is in the air. . .everywhere IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII gooooooooooooooooooo. . .
So, as Ted informed everyone yesterday, Randy Moss has decided that one year away from the National Football League is enough, and has announced that he wants to make a comeback in 2012 if a team will have him. You would think Moss' old partner in crime from early in his career, Cris Carter, would be pleased to see this.
And you'd, apparently, be wrong.
"The one thing you have to address with Randy Moss is not a conditioning thing," Carter said, brushing aside concerns about where or not Moss can still be a legitimate vertical threat. "It's not an age thing. It needs to be addressed. I believe it's the elephant in the room. It's that thing called quit.
"And Randy, not like any other superstar I've met, he has more quit in him than any of those other players. So I need to addresses that. That's what (New England Patriots coach Bill) Belichick did when he brought him over from Oakland. He told him he wasn't going to have it.
"But Randy, when things don't go well, like no other player I've ever been around or associated with, he has a quit mechanism in him that's huge. That needs to be addressed before he signs with any team."
Ummmmmmmm. . .yeah. Not really much I can add there.
Naturally, Moss fired back via the Twitter.
@criscarter80 its sad how u stroked ur own ego when u were suppose to b my mentor!then u wonder why karma bites u in the ass!#goodlukwithhof
— Randy Moss (@DaRealOtisMoss) February 14, 2012
Ouch. Shortly thereafter, Moss tweeted "Cc no matter I still luv u brah." I'm not entirely sure I believe that, given the previously presented evidence.
Again, happy Valentine's Day, everybody!

Carter is right
Moss said it himself with his “I play when I want to play” comment years ago. Jerry Rice padded his numbers for 3-4 years because of his attitude and work ethic. Moss could have bettered Rice in many categories had he possessed half of Rice’s commitment.
Moss was and likely still is an incredible talent. As a Viking fan I am proud to say that we had the most naturally talened WR to ever play the game. Still, I remember his “quit” costing us games. Hell, we even saw it in the short time that he came back in 2010.
I really hate how that comment
Gets dragged out and used out of context all the time.
But yeah, Cris is right. Randy quit in Oakland. Randy quit at times here. Randy quit from football.
Once again we have proof that WR's are the biggest divas in pro sports
I love both these guys, but stop it already.

How can you even say that?
He’s the best, most efficient player in the game. He doesn’t get in trouble. He wanted to play with his friends. Get over it America!

I really see Chris as doing his job.
Moss has every freedom of speech to comment about what Carter said but in the fashion which Moss chose to speak will have repercussions and he should know that by now.

Randy plays when Randy wants to play
Carter is right, maybe could have talked to him in private about though, pretty childish on his part to say it to the media.

The problem is, Carter IS the media now...
but I agree with you, he could have shown some class and and simply wished Randy the best.
He was answering a question...
“Who do you think will likely get signed between Randy and TO?”
on the Mike and Mike show. and if you listen to it you can actually tell that he really wanted to say TO but out of loyalty to his friend he said Randy

I'd take Moss over Owens
every day of the week and twice on Sundays. And I predict Moss will play for someone this year – somebody mentioned Chicago – I could see that. But T.O. is likely done for good.

It's been proven
and stated by other players other then Carter, and not even on the team Moss was on. He does just kinda quit.
Gentlemen! You can't fight in here, this is a war room!

Cris is right.
And I think Randy knows it. As do the 2010 Vikings.
Moss was exceptionally gifted but also had a sense of entitlement that worked against his greatness as his exceptionalism decreased with age.
"Men are creatures with two legs and eight hands. - Jayne Mansfield
Nothing surprising here.
Carter has always been of the ‘tough love’ type with Moss, which is exactly what Randy needs. Anyone notice that ‘quit’ wasn’t a very big issue with Moss until Carter left? (It was, but not to the porportions that we saw afterwards.) They were and apparently have remained close friends, and as even Moss said, Carter was very much the mentor. (And it speaks volumes when someone of Moss’ ego is willing to call another ‘mentor’.) But Carter’s never been the one to bandy words around (hence apparently why he’s not in the HoF), and he’s not one for much cronyism, either- he says what he thinks about everyone, be they friend, enemy, or complete stranger. This isn’t the first time Carter has publicly spoken out against his former protege.
And on the flip side, it’s no surprise to see Moss get a little testy about it. I think the ‘quit’ factor Carter mentioned is perhaps only rivaled by the ‘ego’ factor. Yes, the HoF reference was a bit below the belt, but does anyone believe Moss probably hasn’t said worse in private to Carter when on the wrong end of a tirade? Moss has never striked me as the guy to take his licks and be quiet about it- I doubt he even was like that with Bellichick; the difference there was that those two kept everything behind closed doors. Carter, an analyst, is more prone to have these things publicly stated.
I’m sure at the end of the day these two are just fine. Again, I doubt this signals any sort of an end to their friendship, or in fact, any change in it whatsoever. In all likelihood a similiar scenario has played out a million times between them- just, again, not as publicly.
I would love to believe that Carter is just the guy to get Moss to listen up to this, because it’s sound and sage advice. If Moss does indeed get rid of that quit factor, he can easily join a contender, and, if so lucky, snatch that elusive ring in a season or two. But, sadly, for a guy who is 36 and has had this issue practically his whole career, it’s unlikely to ever go anywhere.

Gotta rec this
Nailed it, KJ.
Anyone saying ‘Carter needs to show more class and do this behind closed doors’ is missing the point. People actually care about CC’s opinion on Moss and Carter has all the place in the world to talk about it based on how much he invested in the kid. He was his mentor after all. Not Culpepper, not Brady, not Wes Welker. CC helped a kid who had a lot of behavior problems coming out of college and it was evident in the way Moss evolved those first few years. Hell, look at that clip that Ted posted a few down. Watch Moss get his feet in the endzone. That’s a Carter move right there. I’d bet dollars to donuts that CC helped teach that technique to Moss. Fitzgerald does the same thing… and guess who he learned it from?
Carter is 100% correct in his view. If Moss put forth the work ethic of guys like Carter, Rice or, hell, a newcomer like Percy Harvin, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation.
Even when the guy half-assed it he made the game look easy. What would it have looked like if he gave it everything on every snap?
Keep dropping the truth bombs, CC!

I don't think I am missing the point.
No doubt Moss could have been so much more, and I know that CC was just calling Randy out in the same way that he often needed in the past, when it may have helped him. The point is, I don’t think that approach will help Moss land with a team now. It may not hurt his chances, but it sure as hell doesn’t help them. Either way, does anyone really believe that CC’s opinions will influence Randy’s approach to football?
Exactly
Randy will just brush this aside as hating, but what if Carter went to Moss in private? I am sure Moss wouldn’t just brush that aside, he might even take it to heart. Coming out on tv or whatever and slamming a guy who is supposedly a good friend of yours just sets the stage for animosity between the two. Then we end up with this retarded high school drama that makes both of them look stupid.
"none of us is a fan of the team" - Judd Zulgad (also fabricated the "schism" reports of 09')
I would imagine
Carter has said this a million times in private to Moss. Perhaps he thinks by saying it publicly it will sink in this time. Or maybe he was just an analyst, doing his job, not caring if the subject matter was a friend or not (which he rarely does). Regardless, I’m sure this wasn’t truly an earth-shattering thing for Moss to hear from Carter’s mouth.

come on guys!
Geez, you act like the “quit” in Randy is some big secret. ANYONE who has probably even casually watched him thoughout his career has seen it, and knows it. you really think scouts/coaching staff on all 32 teams are oblivious to it and will see Carter’s commentary as some epiphany?
the one game I went to in person was a vikings/lions game in like 2001 (IIRC the last year the lions played at the silverdome), and the vikes went down 27-24 in the 4th…..and randy just flat out quit playing. the vikes had the ball on the last drive and randy was just jogging his routes, not making much of an effort to catch the ball, heck, I remember at least 1 drop that would have gotten them near field goal range to tie it up….if he played like Jerry Rice or CC, giving 100% on every snap, nobody could touch him as far as career stats.
Side note
Just further evidence that no matter who you are, you will always sound like a 14-year-old girl with insecurity issues when ‘fighting’ on twitter. Grown men not in the media have no reason to use it.

LOL
So, in a nutshell:
CC: Randy quits.
RM: CC’s got a big ego.

i think cris carter is just still butt hurt over getting snubbed for the HOF...the crybaby...
and he’s taking it out on randy moss, who is a lock hall of famer. even though carter may be right, he seemed to go a bit over board on this one, imo. all he wants is the attention that any other wide receiver / diva wants…he wants it all on him. chad ochocarter, looking for ratings, and trying to stay relevant.
well then who the hell are you talkin' to...are you talkin' to me?

i think the whole thing is stupid. carter should just shut up and stop trying to act like his mom.

This is one of the reasons I like Cris Carter
He is blatantly honest, he doesn’t bandy around and hint at what he means. He flat out states it. Do I believe everything he says? No but I do respect that he’s saying what the thinks, and I respect the way he played and his knowledge of the sport itself.
Randy does a have a lot of quit in him, and honestly if Randy acknowledges it and states his ability, plan, want to get past it I think more teams would be interested in him. The first step is acknowledgement and all that.
Do I think this will change Moss? Nope. From what I’ve seen on the internet it seems that three teams are already interested in talking to Moss. Would it be more if this wasn’t such a stigma? I’m sure, but it is the truth and to bash Carter because of it is hypocritical at best.
The Vikes aren't in a remodeling or reconstruction they are in a burn the place down and start praying they don't mimic the Lions rebuilding process.

That all makes sense
except you make it sound like no one knew Moss had some quit in him. I don’t think there is a person who knows the name Randy Moss that doesn’t know his lack of effort has displayed itself many times on the field. He left a game before it even ended, I don’t know how much more “quit” you can have in you than that.
"none of us is a fan of the team" - Judd Zulgad (also fabricated the "schism" reports of 09')
If you got that from what i said I apologize
I was trying to get across that EVERYONE knows he has quit in him so if he wants to get rehired he should acknowledge it in himself and maybe bring up the years he played for the Pats as a show and tell of how he can play like a grown man. :D
The Vikes aren't in a remodeling or reconstruction they are in a burn the place down and start praying they don't mimic the Lions rebuilding process.
I'm a little surprised teams are interested in him right now, TBH.
Wasn’t it a lack of interest that essentially spurred his retirement a year ago? Why are teams who weren’t interested then interested now, when he’s been gone from the field (and therefore accumulated some rust) for a year?

My thoughts exactly!
Moss’s attitude in 2010’ burned just about every bridge he had in the NFL.
Nobody really showed him any interest in 2011’, so i’m thinking his chances in 2012’ are pretty slim too.
because in 2010 he still thought of himself as a premier wide receiver
and wanted to get paid for it. Now, with him begging to come back, the price…and therefore the risk will be lower. Ohh and no one has his rights, meaning no draft picks to be given up for him.
and a team can dictate the terms
I wouldn’t be suprised if it’s vet minimum with lots of incentives like $X per catch, $X per touchdown, $X bonus for 10 touchdowns, $X for pro-bowl, $x for 70 receptions, etc to where if he played to his potential, maybe he could get $5-8mil for the season with a base salary in the 1-1.5 mil range…
Randy, this is where you would keep your mouth shut (or your tweet to yourself in this case) to show that you aren’t the same immature guy everyone is saying you are. Not that anyone would really be fooled of course, but you could at least act like you care. Could have been the greatest ever but Carter is right: you’ve got too much quit in you.
Coincidence??
I think its interesting that Randy Moss announces his intention to return to the NFL shortly after Cris Carter is snubbed in the HOF voting. Is Randy trying to pad his stats, and up his own HOF chances?
yea, i totally agree. randy moss is a lock hall of famer.
i think cwis is pissed that randy would surpass him in total receptions with 2 good years, and he would make himself the clear cut #2 receiver of all time behind rice. that might be the nail in the coffin for carter.
well then who the hell are you talkin' to...are you talkin' to me?
But...
We all wanted (in a previous post) to have RMoss for 2012? (90% of all posts) Thanks CC for changing our minds in just a few words…
these two guys deserve each other
CC is completely right and guess what? so is Randy – Moss is a QUITTER who followed his “mentor’s” lead by wearing his name on the FRONT of his uniform and not the back where it belonged – they were the quintesential Vikings of this era who had no heart, spine or guts and subsequently never won a goddamn thing, in fact they were HUMILIATED whenever they got close – hopefully CC has to sweat out a few more HOF votes – maybe he’ll think about what a damn phony he really is, one who did everything for the honor and glory of Cris Carter and no one or nothing else
to quote Mrs. Brady
He can’t throw AND catch the ball!
damn, dude
did Cris Carter kick your dog and cheat on your wife or something?
