Off Topic/ "Delocated" Edition

For the past couple of weeks or so, I haven't been all that active around these parts. Partly because of my new job, partly because of my favorite uncle status among my countless neices and nephews, but mostly because of the disgusting and horrid advertisement of Adult Swim's series "Delocated" located in the above header and to the right side of the main page.While I'm sure the show is some-what funny and that the picture is somehow related to one of the episodes, it is extremely vulgar, tastless, and has no business being on the main page of a site that prides it'self in being a "family" one.

Not only is it just plain unpleasant to look at, but I have to look over my shoulder every time I feel like opening up the Daily Norseman to keep any coworkers from seeing the ad. While I completely understand that SBNation has to make a little money from advertising, there has got to be plenty of other advertising partners that could take the place of the current one. So this is me, a humble and noble pawn, asking a knight to tell the king to please do something about this ad.

I’m on a controlled server though, so I can’t download anything like that.

Some of us work in the corporate world...

We are very lucky to not have the site blocked by websense, but we are unable to install 3rd party browsers and add-ons in many situations.

I’m with cowbell on this one, it’s really grossing me out. And I can’t recommend SBN to my friends if they’re going to come here and see that sort of thing.

But there was another reason I’ve been away and it’s because there was a script running in one of the advertisements that was crashing my browser, both Chrome and IE, within 10 minutes. That appears to be gone now, fingers crossed.

Didn’t realize that Chrome ad AdBlock, I left FireFox behind because of the memory leaks. Time to put a stop to this crap.

Regarding the ad

Yes, I’ve gotten some complaints about it, and I apologize to those that have been offended by it.

The new season of Delocated premieres tonight, and as a result the ad campaign for it will be getting dialed back significantly after the premiere airs.

I’m a huge Adult Swim fan, and this is not the first ad campaign that they’ve run with us (and the last one was very successful). So, after today, the ad will change out and we will get something a little less. . .strange.

Again, my apologies to anyone that might be offended or weirded out by the ad.

The ad is still there, no matter where you go, it pops up in a new obnoxious form

I’m going with the AdBlock option, Chris.

But if you get a chance, tell the SBN people that at least one reader will not be recommending this website to his friends and acquaintances because of ads like that. And it definitely makes me wary of opening it up at work, where I can get fired if someone sees it and gets really offended.

SBN needs to wise up on the ads they commit to.

My 6 and 4 year olds walked in while this ad was up...

…and had all kinds of questions.

“Is he a robber?”
“Is he going to be arrested?”
“Where are the rest of his clothes?”
“Do you think he is cold?”

I wish I didn’t have to explain it to them, because frankly, I have no idea what it is or what it is trying to say or sell. I wouldn’t be surprised to have learned that it was put there by Russian hackers who were punishing the DN after failing to extort money from Chris.

I'm very offended

Not by the ad, but by the notion that Delocated has even the thought of being mildly funny. Its not. Its a complete waste. All of Adult Swims live action stuff is just terrible cough Tim and Eric cough and it continually baffles me that they keep getting renewed for new seasons.

I'm just curious...

Any comments from the 4 (so far) who like it? Is that a “freedom of exspression” type of sentiment? Or a “love guys in tighty whities” kinda thing..? Personally, if they replaced the dude white a hot chick I’d have a stronger opinion.

Maybe it’s a sexual orientation thing? Perhaps the women and male homosexuals love the ad.

For me, it doesn’t matter whether it’s a man or a woman, I can still get in a lot of trouble if I open SBN at work and someone walks by and gets offended. I don’t visit questionable websites when I’m at work, and right now, SBN is on the questionable list until ads like that go away.

That add is a little gross, but

I’ve seen some really disturbing things on the internets. A guy in his underwear is pretty mild in comparison. I wonder what women think about Victoria’s Secret adds?

I’ve never watched much Adult Swim. My favorite show is C-Span’s “Washington Journal”.

I am confused with Mr. Cowbell though. I just read a post where he wrote “FU** YEAH”. Are images offensive, but words not? That’s FUC*ING CRAZY.

So with this in mind I did a test this weekend

there is a church like a block from my house and I get people walking by to ‘talk’ about God all the time. In the past I have used profanity, but they just smile and nod as the door slams shut. This week I opened the door in my underwear and a gas mask there was running and screaming. I honestly think this worked much better.
