In case you haven't heard, the Pittsburgh Steelers made the long expected yet still difficult decision to release Hines Ward today. As is unavoidable with any big name free agent, we should discuss the possibility of Ward donning Purple and Gold.
Personally, I'm of the opinion that we should focus solely on the draft and avoid other team's cast-offs. In the end, if you build youth, you set yourself up for long term success rather than a roller coaster that comes from playing significantly in free agency. However, Hines Ward is a little different in what he brings to the table. Certainly, Ward isn't the same player that he used to be; he would likely be the #3 receiver on our roster behind Percy and either a younger FA or a draft pick. What he brings, though, is discipline and experience. I think he would be a great addition in that he could be a dependable option, especially when he's in one-on-one situations along with bring tutelage and experience to help Christian Ponder, Percy Harvin, and whomever else the Vikings may pick up. Youth is important while rebuilding a franchise. However, the development of that youth can be sped up by playing with some experience.
So, what does DN think. Should the Vikings consider bringing in Hines Ward?
