Feeling Lucky?

Since Peyton Manning is cleared to play, and hypothetically, if the Colts pass on Andrew Luck, would we have a shot at Andrew Luck? The reason I think the Colts would pass on a QB 1st Round, even if he is the hottest draft prospect since Manning himself, is that they are a team that needs to win now. Their key guys are aging. Manning is 35, and coming off a severe injury. Their star reciever, Reggie Wayne, is 33. Jeff Saturday, their center is 36. Rebuilding a team that is losing their cornerstones can't be done in a single draft. I see them selling out to win now, by either trading down, or drafting Kalil to keep Manning upright for another year, or maybe Blackmon to give him another threat. If the Colts do pass on Luck, I also doubt the Rams select another Quarterback, with the money owed to Bradford still. I see them taking the other one that the Colts didn't take, either Kalil or Blackmon. Which leaves us with us, the Vikings. What would be the chances of us scoring Andrew Luck? And would we pull the trigger given the chance? Ponder has looked promising, and Joe Webb is a great athlete, but Andrew Luck is real blue-chip draft prospect. P.S. I'm a total noob at this, can't figure out how to add spaces between paragraphs lol. This is my 1st post here.

No way

This is just not going to happen.
Indy will draft luck or trade the pick to somebody willing to give up a boatload of draft picks to get luck. I see no possible scenario where Luck isn’t the first overall pick

Jim Irsay has already stated that the Colts will take Andrew Luck

This would be a dream scenario, but if the Colts were to do the unthinkable and pass on him, I have a feeling the Rams would trade out in a heartbeat for the most amount of draft picks they can get.

If for some reason Indy doesn't take Luck

They or the Rams would trade their pick. No chance he drops to 3.

Hey Green Bay, where's your WNBA title???

That makes me think...

WE SHOULD TOTALLY TRADE UP WITH THEM!!

FU** YEAH, SUPABOW HEYAH WE COM!!!

If we can't laugh at ourselves, Packer fans will call us crybabies and we will be forced to kick their tooth in. I really don't want to go to jail (again).

Indy has already publicly said they will draft Luck

The news of Peyton being able to return to football, doesn’t mean he’s ready to start to when the 2012 season rolls around. The report said only that his neck had healed. He still has nerve damage in his arm that hasn’t healed, and until that heals, he’ll never be the same. No, the Colts will still draft Luck.

Ponder. Peterson. Percy. Purple Perfection.

Luck is going #1...

But in the unlikely scenario that a guy like Matt Kalil is unbelievably impressive during the combine/workouts and Indy thinks he is a franchise LT (which is very possible), and they stick with Peyton instead of going with Luck (which is unlikely), I think St. Louis probably trades the #2 pick for about 4 first rounders. If Justin Blackmon, though, also has a crazy good combine (I’m talking measuring in a 6’3’’ 225 pounds and running a 4.38) and St. Louis think’s he’s that franchise WR Bradford needs, there is a tiny chance that they would take Blackmon instead of trading the pick.
Now, if by some crazy scenario we do end up seeing Kalil going #1 and Blackmon going #2 (which is about a 1:1,000 chance, I know), we will not select Andrew Luck. Our #3 pick will be the most valuable #3 pick ever. I honestly think we could get a team like Washington, Miami, or Cleveland to move up to take him…. What would that cost them? I think we could easily get a #1 & #2 this year, a #1 &#2 next year, and maybe even a #1 the next year. If Andrew Luck falls to #3, which is so unlikely it’s almost not worth talking about, we could net 2 1sts and 2 2nds and possibly 3 firsts and 2 seconds to move down 1-6 spots.
If we’re given that scenario, we’re taking the picks and building a great team around Christian Ponder. He’s Speilman’s guy, and we will give him time to show us what he can do. It’s kinda crazy to even think about taking a QB in the 1st again considering how many holes we have that prevent a QB from succeeding. If we had the #1 overall pick, maybe, but I still think we’d be looking to trade down and maximize value. There isn’t a QB in the league who would have succeeded behind our O-Line and with our WR’s. We need to address LT in the first round and get a WR in rounds 2-4, wherever there’s most value (I like Dwight Jones in the 2nd or Jeff Fuller in the 3rd) and probably sign a FA like Garcon. The rest of the draft would go toward defense, BPA, if I had my way.

...and Joe Webb is a great athlete

Who has shown a lot of promise at the quarterback position. Everyone is so hung up on Joe’s athletic ability, that they don’t see anything else.

luck is over rated.

he is just very consistent, a good athlete, and a damn good decision maker. but thats really it, he is NEVER going to throw for 400 yards a game. im not saying he isnt going to be a pro bowler, but i dont think hed do better in the nfl then say a flacco or a matt ryan. he reminds me of roethlisberger a little in that he knows how to extend the play. but in all honesty i wouldnt expect him to do any better then case keenum if they were given the same situation.

^Ludacris...

Andrew Luck IS the real deal. It’s crazy to compare him and Case Keenum. I like Keenum too. I would be totally fine with Case Keenum or a guy like Brandon Weeden backing up Christian Ponder, but that’s all either of them will ever be. A back-up with a chance to grow into a starting QB. Andrew Luck is a starting QB right now, and he will be a top 15 QB in the NFL his rookie year. He wouldn’t be able to do much behind our o-line, as I mentioned above, so it makes more sense to haul in about 4 or 5 early picks, but he will be a top 15 QB as a rookie and probably a top 5 QB by year 3.
In his sophomore and junior seasons, he played 26 games. He had 6,855 yards. That’s about 265 yards a game. If he averaged 265 yards a game in the NFL, he would have 4,240 yards. That’s very good. Not to mention he had 69 TD’s to only 18 INT in that span. And a completion % of around 71%. He’s legit. This all comes from a guy who played with really no skill position talent his whole junior season. And he led his team to the #4 spot in the BCS rankings. And he was in a 100% pro-style offense. He’s the real deal.
I have been on the Andrew Luck “Bandwagon” since his freshman year, and I think he will win multiple Super Bowls. But I stand by the guy we drafted #12 overall, just like the team will. There’s no way we trade up for Luck, and he won’t be available at #3. To compare the best QB prospect in the past 25 years to Case Keenum is really insulting though. Luck is damn good.

case had almost as much passing yards in 1 season...THREE times!!

dont get me wrong, im a luck fan, i think hes a good QB but the way everyone elevates him over people like keenum or moore or russel willson is just ridiculous. and the whole “well luck played in a better conference” thing is BS, the best defenses in the MTN and in CUSA are probably on the same level as the best PAC-12 conferences. sorry if this turnes into a CFB discussion, got kinda carried away…but i feel as if people are just going to hands down say hes the best quarterback since elway. i mean, how far can we raise our expectations? after the combine hell be expected to go 15-1 and beat the pats patriots and ravens four times each, i really wish the kid succes, but i dont get how he can go #1 while keenum and austin davis and moore will get stuck in crappy situations

Physical attributes.

Andrew Luck is 6’ 4’’ and 240 pounds. He has a cannon arm. That stuff can’t be taught.
And he played in a pro-style, which elevates him even more. College QB’s who have played in true pro-style systems have a much higher success rate than those who have played in a spread or other college systems. There is a reason that he is rated so high.
I actually was just talking the other day about how I would just love to take Kellen Moore in the 6th or 7th to be a back-up. He’s small, but he’s been very consistent and healthy. I know the big knock on Russell Wilson is the fact that he might not even be 5’ 10’’… I would actually be fine with Austin Davis, Case Keenum, Kellen Moore, or Brandon Weeden to be our back-up.
I really think it’s reasonable to expect Indy to reach the playoffs this next year with Andrew Luck at the helm. I know they have a lot of FA’s, but if they keep a solid core there, they could be 10-6 or 11-5.

by mak07 on Feb 3, 2012 6:40 PM CST up reply actions

im glad your not as closed minded about these guys like some other people are.

i think its reasonable to expect the colts to be about as good if not better then the bengals were this year. and i know how wilson is 5"10 or whatever but how huge was wisconsins O-Line? if he could set the record for pass efficiency behind those guys i doubt that hed have to much trouble given a good situation.

by statue_left on Feb 3, 2012 7:05 PM CST via iPhone app up reply actions

The Wisconson O-Line also helped him...

They were twice as good as the line the Vikings ran out there this year. That line gave him plenty of time and huge holes to run through. He’ll probably never be in as good of a situation again.

by mak07 on Feb 3, 2012 7:29 PM CST up reply actions

stanfords O-line was nearly as good

shame our vikes’ line is worse then two college teams…..kalil anyone?

I too think Luck is over rated.

He’ s a great talent though. I just think his ceiling as high as some has made it out to be.
