On the heals of Chris's stadium post, comes this out of L.A. concerning the AEG stadium proposal.
It's about dead
Doesn't surprise me since any "plan" in L.A. has usually met with the Grim Reaper.
So, looks like the Emperor of the Galactic Empire..........er, Commissioner Goodell, Robert Kraft and L.A. mayor had a meeting in December with Phil Anschutz about some of the demands his group is making for a prospective team. First of which, is a minority stake in any team coming in. And at a discounted rate. Well, If anyone can imagine, no team owner worth his weight is going to do that, unless strapped for cash or looking at retiring. Another stumbling block appears to be that there is a deman to pay rent on the facility for any team coming in. Which seems pretty stupid if AEG is wanting part ownership, why would they charge themselves?
Anyways, with the Environmental Impact Study (Aren't you glad you don't live there?) is coming next month. But at present, there seems to be no real interest from Anschutz in changing things to help attract a team. At present, there has been no comment from Tim Leiweke and even their spokesman has been mum on the whole situation. So who knows what is going on there. But at least one potential "leverage" ploy seems on it's way out. And given the attempts to get a stadium built in Minneapolis, this would bode well not only for the Vikings, but San Diego and the other teams mentioned as potential relocation targets.
