Vikings Final Mock Draft

Time for my final mock. I really believe that the Vikings should trade down no matter what the offer or how far they have to drop. In my last mock I tried multiple trades. I think it is very possible for the Vikings to move down in the top of the first round a couple of times at the least. I would do it too.

Kalil, Claiborne, and Blackmon are all considered to be in the top 6 of this draft. Blue chippers if you will. I always thought Blue Chips were the Blue Chip Stamps that we use to go bowling to try and get. Now they are top NFL draft prospects. Go figure. But missing out on one of those three is not the end of the world nor would it set the team back. Getting as many picks as possible in the top 50 to 100 is most desireable IMO.

So what are the different trade scenarios that seem most reasonable? First I have to say that the old trade chart is probably not used by teams any longer. I think that us fans can use it as a guide but I think many GMs probably have created one of their own or just use their own common sense. Here are a couple of different takes on a new trade chart ...

So which one would you use if you did not use the old trade chart?

Here are the trades I would accept .

1. Cleveland - I would go for #4 and #100
2. Tampa - I would go for #5, #68, and #140 or a 2013 4th.
3. St Louis - I would go for #6 and #39, and their 2013 5th or 6th.
4. Miami - I would go for #8, #72, #73, and their 2013 4th.
5. Buffalo - I would go for #10, #41, #105 and their 2013 3rd.
6. Kansas City - I would go for #11, #44, and their 2013 2nd & 5th
7. Seattle - I would go for #12, #43, and their 2013 2nd & 4th
8. NY Jets - I would go for #17, #47, and their 2013 1st & 4th.
9. Cincinnati - I would go for #17, #21, #116, and their 2013 3rd & 5th
10. Cleveland - I would go for #22, #37, #100, and their 2013 1st & 5th (now this would be crazy!)

I obviously think that the Vikings will be the first team to trade in the first round. I think they should do it without hesitation too.

It is hard for me to even predict anything happening. The Vikings could just slide down one spot with the Browns and pick up an extra 4th. But they could get a better deal from Tampa or the Rams so why do that move? The Browns know this and are not going to get hosed.

I think that Tampa and the Rams could move up for Richardson because Cleveland would be the team most likely to take him otherwise.

I think that Miami does not want to give up too much to move up.

I think that Buffalo could possibly bite the bullet to come and get Kalil. They have been very aggressive this off-season and I think they their owner wants to win now considering his age. I think the package I would take above is probably too little because they may give a bit more.

Here is my dream scenario.

The Vikings trade the #3 pick to the Browns for the #67 and #118 pick. The Browns do what it takes to ensure they get Richardson. The Vikings still have their choice between the big three.

Next, I would trade the #4 pick to the Bills for the #10, #41, #105, and their 2013 3rd.

So now the Vikings have the number 10,35,41,66,67,98,105,118,128,134,138,175,210,&223 picks.

Here is what I would do with those picks. The Vikings could conceivably trade down again from #10 too but not here.

10. Luke Kuechly LB 6'3.2" 242 4.50
35. Josh Robinson CB UCF 5'10.1" 199 4.29
41. Kendall Reyes DT Connecticut 6'4.1" 299 4.85
66. Mitchell Schwartz OT Cal 6'5." 318 5.31
67. Alameda Ta'amu DT 6'2.3" 348 5.23
98. Brandon Mosley OT 6'5.5" 314 5.05
105. George Iloka SS Boise State 6'3.5" 225 4.59
118. Travis Lewis LB Oklahoma 6'1.3" 253 4.75
128. Brandon Hardin FS Oregon State 6'2.5" 216 4.39
134. Chris Rainey RB/KR/WR 5'8" 180 4.35
138. Greg Childs WR Arkansas 6'3.1" 219 4.39
175. Justin Bethel FS/CB Presbyterian 5'11.4" 200 4.54
210. Terrence Fredericks CB Texas A&M 5'10.1" 187 4.43
223. Greg Zuerlein K Missouri Western 6'0" 189

If I did a straight draft with no trades then I would do this ...

3. Morris Claiborne CB LSU
35. Kendall Reyes DT Connecticut
66. Mitchell Schwartz OT Cal
98. Travis Lewis LB Oklahoma
128. Brandon Hardin FS Oregon State
134. Chris Rainey RB/KR/WR
138. Greg Childs WR Arkansas
175. Justin Bethel FS/CB Presbyterian
210. Terrence Fredericks CB Texas A&M
223. Greg Zuerlein K Missouri Western

I also can do a popular draft with no trades too ...

3. Matt Kalil OT USC
35. Josh Robinson CB UCF
66. Alameda Ta'amu DT Washington
98. Travis Lewis LB Oklahoma
128. Brandon Hardin FS Oregon State
134. Chris Rainey RB/KR/WR
138. Greg Childs WR Arkansas
175. Justin Bethel FS/CB Presbyterian
210. Terrence Fredericks CB Texas A&M
223. Greg Zuerlein K Missouri Western

I think that all 3 are far fetched because some of the early picks may be gone. I think Josh Robinson could go in the first round. I think Ta'amu will go in the second round. I think Iloka could go in the third round. Hard to say.

I am hoping the team trades down and gets more picks in the second and third rounds most of all. I like this approach because the team is not going to be competitive in the NFC North for at least a couple of years. It could be longer if Ponder does not improve (I think he will though).

It is going to be fun later that is for sure. I know I will not be happy. I never am with the drafts.
