The 10 year partnership that the NFL signed with Nike launches this morning, as the new uniforms that the uber-company will be providing to the NFL will unveiled at 10:00.
Most of you know that Nike has been the jersey supplier for the University of Oregon, a PAC-12 university that has approximately 162,112 uniform combinations, of which 3 look good.
So naturally, there's a lot of trepidation in some quarters that Nike is going to 'ruin' some classic NFL looks, like the Cowboys, Steelers, Colts, and Bears. I would've added the Vikes into that group, but when they went to the new uniforms in 2006, they did a good job of that on their own. I liked the idea of going to the purple pants, but they never wear them, so meh.
Nike insists that the uniform tweaks are going to be seen more in the material of the shirt, which is supposedly much lighter and more durable, but there have been tweaks to a couple of teams, including the Seahawks and Panthers.
So if you guys were the Vikings uniform designers, what would you do? Would you go back to the classic look, keep the current uniforms, or go 'outside the box' and come up with something completely new and radical that would cause me to yell 'get off my lawn' at you?
Personally, I'd go back to the classic uniforms that are now the Vikes throwbacks, and just add purple pants for a home or road option. That stripe on the old pants was the coolest pants stripe in the NFL; I miss it.
