I'm on the DN every day, normally, and while I haven't posted that often, this blog has replaced all other news sources for my Vikings information. I was thinking about that today, and how I stumbled across this blog a few years ago, and decided that it would be cool to hear other people's stories as well. Not only is it interesting to hear how and why people became part of this community, but could also serve as a marketing tool to recruit new members. So after the jump, my short story of how I came to be a loyal follower of the best Vikings blog in the world!
It was early 2009 and I had just quit my full-time job to enroll in grad school later that year. I had been to the DN a few times before, but it was always linked from Yahoo Sports, which was then my primary Vikings resource. NFL free agency had just started and we all learned that the Vikes were in hot pursuit of T.J. Houshmandzadah as a free agent WR acquisition. I felt, as many of us did, that T.J. would be an excellent pickup, especially given that our beloved T-Jack was still the favorite to start under center in 2009 (Favregeddon was a few months away). Given that I had no job or school responsibilities to worry about, and that Housh could be the missing link the Vikes needed for a serious super bowl run, I decided to follow his free agency status very closely. I became frustrated by the normal sports news media because they were not Vikings-centric and usually took too long between updates. Then, I found my way back to the DN, where some free agency open threads were happening. I started religiously reading the posts and comments and found a whole bunch of Vikings fans just like me that enjoyed speculating on our team's pursuits. I discovered the most up-to-date Housh information around, and I remember hitting F5 dozens, if not hundreds, or times on the night he was (supposedly) going to sign with the Vikes. It was then that I discovered the real value of this blog: The passion that goes into it. Not only do we have great writers on this staff providing us the most current info on the Vikings 24/7, but all the members here have the same love for the Vikings as I do, which is an amazing sense of camaraderie during wins and losses alike.
So even though we didn't get Housh, I can't hate the guy, because he's forever part of how I became a loyal DN'er. What's your story?
