I need some input from the older Viking fans out there. Who was the better center and why?
Since I did not start watching the Vikes play on a regular basis until 1979, I did not get a chance to see either of them play. Always fun to hear stories from those that remember the great teams of the seventies. Plus, it fits in with the nostalgia of Ted's recent posts as well.
Now a little background on why this question came up: One of my favorite football sites Pro Football Reference is doing its own all-time player ratings. You can get all the nuts and bolts on how they came up with their rankings on their page, but part of the equation is having fans choose between two players. Well, Tingelhoff and Otto came up (I chose Tingelhoff, of course) and it got me to thinking.
Anyway, check it out if you have the chance. At the very least it makes for good conversation.
Spoiler alert:
By the way, Sir Francis is ranked #5 out of all the ranked offensive players (Johnny U is #1) and Alan Page is the #5 defensive player (Jack Lambert is #1).
