It has been a long and exhausting road but, I am back to where I can catch my Vikings and talk with Vikings and hopefully plan some activities with DN members.I am back in the Twin Cities Area! I had asked Arif to contact Chris about being "social director" of DN so here are some things I would like to propose. Some of these ideas I had when I lived in Florida but, far more realistic to accomplish now that I am in Hudson. (BTW, I need to contemplate a new user name now. if ya have any suggestions, let me have some) *Disabled Viking sounded kind of weak :-)
One thing I would like to do is establish a couple Daily Norseman days at trining camp. Was thinking we could have some tailgate meetings in the parking lot and/or meet between practices at a lunch spot. At one time there was discussion of a camp out at a local camping site in Mankato. If you are interested in any of these 2 options or both, leave a comment. We can combine the two or folks can just join the tailgate/lunch. Let me know if you are interested in camping. I will look for a nice place witha pool as a nice pool can be a relief on hot days. Tent or camper -think on it and let me know ASAP so I can look for a good spot.
Another thing that would be fun are area parties throughout the Twin Cities and even outstate regions, for away games. Parties could be done at a host home or some of you that have townhome or condo recreational buildings, we could have get togethers for away games. So again, if you think you would liek to host a party in a certain area lets see who might be interested in your area. Otherwise we do a couple of games at one central location. So if you have a good place for that, a pot luck and BYO with friends and Vikings game and meet some of your DN friends would be fun.
In the past I sponsored some fantacy leagues. I hope to do that again. One will be a prize league where I hope to get donations from The Vikings and other sports franchises for awards. In this one league, proceeds will go to help Wings on Wheels, a disabled racing program where I teach and train young people in wheelchair and handcycle racing. The Good Lord has opened a huge possibility with a couple disabled groups in Minnesota. costs for such things are high for many so I am in the process of raising $ for loaner/training euipment for low income disabled. So one league will be dedicated to that cause. There will be other leagues as well which I hope to announce soon. I believe one year we had 3 leagues. This is not to interfere with the official DN league but another option for DNers, as that league fills up fast.
The final social event on my radar would be to have a Christmas party Vikings Style. These activities should be great on building more than a "social media family" Hopefully it will establish some REAL face-to-face friendships that will only make Daily Norseman a more solid group of posters for years to come.
This "social program" was going to be submitted to Chris and the other eidtors. I am sure it will be a good thing and something that I can do for the Site without putting more on their plate. If you want, to get involved and offer suggestions. A committe would be nice so if a couple of you would be interested in commiting to that, please let me know. Planning can take the use of many hands soany help would be welcome. Let's focus on trianing camp activities and the camping days 1st, with fantasy plans coming up soon also.
PS- I was thinking of a specialregular season game and see if it can be designated Daily Norseman Day by the Vikings. Many will have their seats already but we can figure out some special things to do that day. A VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO ARIF. He needed a partner to go to games with and so did I. We were able to get really nice seats in thedisabled seating. So my "perk" got him a nicer view of the game and both of us a friend to go to games with. The nice thing is we can now secure the chance to be there the 1st season at thenew stadium. Thanks Arif. It's good to be back home in Vikings Country!
