I just wanted to start a thread on the QB situation in Minnesota. Everybody seems to have an inherent hatred for Ponder and lust over Webb. I just wanted to make a couple points. First, Ponder played his rookie season last year with no camp or anything to prepare. If you look at his numbers they were better than Matthew Stafford's first season with the lions (and oh yeah, Stafford was throwing to somebody called Calvin Johnson). I could be wrong, but I don't recall everybody shouting for Stafford to be benched. Also, take a look at Rogers and Cutler's first seasons and they are comparable. Now I am not saying that Ponder will be as good as any of those guys but give him a break, you can't write him off yet. The new trend is to write off QB's after their first year when people forget that most of the great QB's today had rough first and second seasons.

Secondly, Webb sucks and will never be a starting QB in the NFL. MBT should make the team in front of him. I saw a previous post on here referencing the fact that athletic QB's are yet to win a Super Bowl, and I agree. The trend in the NFL right now is not to get an athletic QB but instead a good pocket passer who can read defenses before the ball is snapped and audible into a successful play. Webb is not that.

Finally I just want to make it clear that I'm not sold on Ponder at this point. But, he definitely deserves another season and I'm betting his numbers will get a lot better.
