The Patriots made several cuts today, and of particular interest is Jabar Gaffney. Gaffney is a veteran at 31 years old, but he had one of his most productive seasons last year, grabbing 68 catches 947 yards (13.9 yd avg.) and 5 TDs (coming from QBs Rex Grossman and John Beck).
I think there is a bit of a debate right now on who to keep on the roster between Jenkins and Aromashodu, but I think Gaffney would be an interesting possibility and would certainly be a threat for both of the previously mentioned WRs on our roster.
I know Gaffney had a hard time standing out in New England, but they were rather deep at WR with Welker, Lloyd, Edelman, and Stallworth (who was also just cut).
I know that, realistically, he probably won't garnish any attention from us due to his age, but I think he at least deserves some consideration. He is an experienced veteran who has worked with multiple QBs (of all talent levels). And though he doesn't have the career numbers of a guy like T.O. or the size of a guy like Burress, but he certainly does not bring the drama with him and he has posted some of the best numbers of his career in the last 2 years.
I know its a little late in the preseason to add another WR to the mix, but with no WRs, outside of Harvin and Simpson, stepping up and taking charge, we need some competition.
