Which College Players Are Future Vikings Week 2 Review and Week 3 Primer

The first two weeks of college football are in the books.

Arkansas was dealt a pretty bad loss by Louisiana-Monroe. That was bad and it showed that the depth at QB for most college football teams is probably just as bad. If Matt Barkley goes down then my Trojans will be in trouble too. Still, Tyler Wilson does not play defense last time I checked.

Wisconsin was dealt a big loss by Oregon State. Why they did not give the ball to Montee Ball more is a mystery? They did let their offensive line coach go after the game. Sad.

I suppose you can say UCLA upset Nebraska but I don't know. They played well. I thought this was the best game I watched (besides USC of course).

There were some teams that beat up on the cupcakes they scheduled (FSU, Alabama, Oklahoma, South Carolina, VA Tech, TCU, & Tennessee). Very impressive scheduling.

After watching USC vs Syracuse and Utah vs Utah State I am torn between Robert Woods and Star Lotulelei. Woods is dynamic. Since he can return too he brings an extra dimension which makes him more valuable IMO. But Star is a beast. Teams just cannot run at him even if they want to try a double team. I like him a lot and he is still on top of my board (a wannabe board at that).

So far it has been a good start IMO. I cannot wait until teams start scheduling each other to provide some really good matchups during the season. It could be another few years though.

I am listing some performances to date of some of the top players below. I might not have them all here so feel free to add a player who you think did really well and may have vaulted themselves up the draft boards.

Which games will you be watching and which players do you think would be great Vikings?

Here is my weekly mock and I still have the Vikings in the 8th position. I think 6-10 is definitely doable now that they escaped with the win this past week. Last year 3 teams finished 6-10 and they picked 8,9,10. If the Vikings make it to 7-9 then they would have picked 11 or 12 last year. I will leave it at 8 for now.

I could not change up my first two picks from last week. I thought really hard about Robert Woods WR USC but I think that Jerome Simpson may be able to lock down that WR spot opposite Percy. Then you have Jarius Wright who probably will be back next year (duh). So then there is Jenkins who is what he is at this point in his career. A 50 catch a year with a few TDs type of guy. Aromashodu and Burton are there for depth and may or may not get better. They added two players to the practice squad in Tori Gurley and Chris Summers. Maybe one of them will make the squad next year?

So I think another WR would be good for depth purposes. Davis is reportedly very fast and can run possibly as low as 4.32. Very impressive at that size. He has been durable although not very productive. But Virginia Tech has not had that great of a passing offense the last couple of years (66th and 72nd nationally). Plus he was stuck behind Danny Coale and Jarrett Boykin. He may rise up the boards and go in the second round next year based on his size and speed.

I think we may need an offensive tackle to back up Loadholt and Kalil. They may not keep Loadholt as well. So far, Demarcus Love has not been able to show much due to injury. Lack of availability sometimes can end a career (at least for one team). Then you have Geoff Schwartz, Mark Asper, & Kevin Murphy. I think they may need to get a reliable backup and someone who could possibly take over for Loadholt.

Then I think adding to the depth on defense is going to be critical. LB depth especially. I am not sure about Mitchell, McKenzie, & Dean being able to play in the base defense. The jury is out on Brinkley and the Vikings are going to have to probably over pay to keep Erin Henderson. So adding more depth that has the potential to start is key.

I like Stafford and Sanford may not get resigned. Sendejo is a nice story but every year you have to earn that spot.

You can never have enough corners especially big ones.

Then I wanted to double up on the defensive tackle and ones with size (already).

I hope that you can watch your team(s) and provide some feedback on players you think that can make it in the NFL
