Minnesota Vikings Stadium: Architect To Be Chosen By October 5

Hannah Foslien

The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority is still sifting through the proposals from the five architects that submitted proposals to be the designers of the Minnesota Vikings' new home. The hope was that the architect would be named yesterday, but for a project of this magnitude, it's probably best for them to take the extra time to get it right.

Michele Kelm-Helgen, one of the members of the Facilities Authority, said that a decision on the matter would be coming soon. The next scheduled meeting for the Facilities Authority is October 5, and it would not be surprising to see the announcement made on that date, though it could come prior to that meeting as well.

While no pictures from any of the five architectural firms that submitted proposals have been released yet, the Wilf family is thought to be big fans of the venue that the Vikings will be playing in tomorrow. That, of course, is Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts and the venue for Super Bowl XLVI.

Groundbreaking on the stadium is still scheduled for this coming Spring, while the stadium is expected to be ready for the 2016 season opener. The Vikings have also submitted a proposal to the National Football League to host the Super Bowl in 2018, 2019, or 2020.
