I'm starting to like this whole "not having horrible special teams" thing the Vikings have going on.

Yes, through three quarters of play there still hasn't been an offensive touchdown. The Minnesota special teams have saved the day, with Percy Harvin taking the opening kickoff 105 yards for a score and Marcus Sherels taking a punt back 77 yards. Fox insists on telling you that this is the first time in Vikings history that this has happened. It isn't. Here's the box score to prove it.

Also just been informed on Twitter that it's Marcus Sherels' birthday. So he's got that going for him. . .which is nice.

The big story here, however, is the Minnesota defense. They've stopped Detroit at basically every turn this afternoon, and generated the game's first turnover after Jamarca Sanford forced a Mikel Leshoure fumble on Leshoure's first carry of the day of any significant length. Sanford also managed to recover the fumble to halt a Detroit drive that would have continued inside the Minnesota 30-yard line.

According to St. Paul Pioneer Press reporter Brian Murphy on the Twitter, it has been 1,001 days since the Minnesota Vikings held sole possession of first place in the NFC North. They're about fifteen minutes away from making that happen. Can they hold on? Come join us and find out!
