The Pro Bowl is over and it’s the last we will see of any Minnesota Vikings until late this summer. So now, all energy will be focused on improving this team. Wide Receiver, by consensus, is certainly a handicap on our roster. With only a handful of projected top-tier talent at the position in this year’s draft, which receiver would you draft (realistically, at the Vikings 23rd pick) and why?
For me, it’s Justin Hunter. I like his size and speed. He’s played in the SEC where he’s challenged by some of the roughest, arguably most advanced defenses in college on a weekly basis. Watching his highlights, I see nothing to frown upon with the kid.
If there’s any downside here it may be that he’s torn his ACL before. But he recovered from that injury to play in 2012 and that’s good enough for me.
Some more common choices in mock drafts have been DeAndre Hopkins and Terrence Williams. From merely watching highlights, I’m less impressed with Hopkins than most. I don’t see him making the more difficult catches that receivers need to be able to make in the NFL. Terrence Williams, on the other hand, does seem to have that trait. Williams is more of a quick receiver, running circles around defenders. If the Vikings don’t choose Hunter, I would also be satisfied with Williams.
What about you? What do you think?
