Christian Ponder "Disappointed" in Josh Freeman Signing

In what should come as no surprise to anyone, Christian Ponder's first public comments about the Jash Freeman signing were not positive.

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed. We'll see how things play out," Ponder said of all the recent developments at quarterback, via Sean Jensen of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "Some of the dynamics of this organization have changed, obviously ... But I'm preparing like I'm going to be on the field."

Earlier in the week, Leslie Frazier said that Ponder would be the starter this Sunday if he was healthy, and within days Ponder was given medical clearance to play after injuring his ribs. But Frazier has been non-committal about his starting quarterback, and according to the Pioneer Press's Sean Jensen, Matt Cassel has been receiving the bulk of the 1st team reps. It would appear the writing is on the wall and Matt Cassel is more than likely going to be the starter after having a respectable first start for the Vikings in London. Either way, Cassel or Ponder are merely place-holders for the eventual anointing of Jash Freeman as the Vikings 2013 starting quarterback.

This is as it should be in my opinion. Christian Ponder had an up and down 2012 season and really needed to come out of the gate with a strong performance. Instead he stunk up the joint turning the ball over 6 times leading the team to an 0-3 start. He did the exact opposite of what he needed to do in order to give himself some job security, and instilled zero confidence in the coaching staff and ownership when he was injured for the 4th consecutive season (going back to his college days). While he may end up as the official 2nd string quarterback this Sunday, his fate is to sit as the 3rd string quarterback for the remainder of the year once Jash Freeman gets up to speed. Perhaps a trade is in eminent, but what team would want to trade for Christian Ponder?
