Minnesota Vikings At New York Giants: Third Quarter Open Thread

Elsa

The Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants exchanged three-and-outs to start the second quarter of play at MetLife Stadium.

The Giants then proceeded to move down the field, aided by a huge pass interference penalty on rookie Xavier Rhodes that moved the Giants down to the Minnesota 24-yard line. It didn't take them long to take advantage, as Eli Manning found Rueben Randle on the next play for a touchdown pass. Josh Brown added the extra point, and New York retook the lead by a score of 10-7.

The Vikings appeared to have something going on the ensuing drive, but the drive stalled and the Vikings brought on Blair Walsh for a 53-yard field goal attempt. Walsh, who has been dealing with a hamstring injury, came up just short, giving him his first career miss from 50 yards or more. The Giants took over with good field position at their own 43-yard line and their lead intact.

Fortunately, the Vikings were able to force another three-and-out and got their defense off the field. The punt went through the end zone, and Minnesota took over at their own 20.

Minnesota went three-and-out once again, but managed to get a stop of the Giants as well. The Vikings got the ball back at the two-minute warning just inside their own 20-yard line. After gaining a little bit of yardage, the Vikings had to punt it away, and a great punt by Jeff Locke bounced at the 1-yard line, going out of bounds around the 5.

The Giants, inexplicably, attempted to run plays from inside their own 10 rather than taking a knee, and the Vikings forced the Giants to punt again. However, the Vikings didn't do anything with it, and they went into the locker room trailing, 10-7.

To this point, Adrian Peterson has just eight carries for nine yards. No, those numbers are not typos. Josh Freeman has completed seven-of-sixteen for 74 yards through two quarters of play.

We're getting ready for the second half of play from MetLife Stadium, folks! The Vikings will get the ball first, trailing the New York Giants by a score of 10-7.
