Shredded Underneath: Revisited -- A Formula to Beat the Vikings

3rd and short... converted.

3rd and short... converted.

3rd and long... STOPPED WOOOOO!!

4th and short... converted...

---

Pretty much how last night went -- and it probably comes as a surprise to nobody, but the Packers did all of their damage underneath.

So I figured I'd post an update to a previous FanPost, as I'm logging opposing QBs 'deep' and 'short' passes throughout the year. (As a reminder, 'short' passes are 15 air yds or less; 'deep' passes are 15 air yds or more.)

Rodgers was 23/26 last night on 'short' passes for 158yds and 2 TDs.

The Packers only attempted three 'deep' passes -- completing one for 27yds.

On the year, opposing QBs are 13/34 for 367yds on deep passes for 3 TDs -- that's only 38% for 52 yds/gm.

But they're 176/238 (74%) for 1,693yds (242yds/gm) on short passes for 11 TDs. UGH.

The formula to beat the Vikings is fairly basic:

- Control the time of possession with high-percentage short passes and a running game (this was the 4th game in a row our opponents had the ball for longer than 36min -- with the Packers controlling it for almost 41min)

- Score points to keep the ball out of AP's hands (he's averaging only 12 carries and 50yds per game since the Bye)

Final fun fact: did you know we are one of only two teams this season to allow 23 pts or more in every game??

There are a lot of problems on this team, but defense is the most glaring. Whether it's scheme, or the Linebackers, (or both), something needs to change.
