Report: Christian Ponder To Start At Quarterback Against Cowboys

Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier in the day on Wednesday, Minnesota Vikings' head coach Leslie Frazier said that he had an idea who he would be starting at quarterback on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, but wanted to wait until Friday to make an announcement.

It appears that Jerome Simpson may have taken the liberty of making that announcement for him.

According to Derek Wetmore of 1500 ESPN in the Twin Cities and Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Simpson has said that the team will, again, be going with Christian Ponder at quarterback on Sunday when the team travels to Texas.

"I think we're going with Ponder," Simpson told the Pioneer Press after practice Wednesday. "I feel confident in him. We just got to protect for him and make the catches."

So, while we don't know "for sure," apparently the Vikings players do, and apparently one of them has decided to go around or above the head coach to divulge it to the public.

This subterfuge would almost be interesting if there was any chance that it would make a damn bit of difference one way or the other. But, since it appears that all of the Vikings' quarterback options are bad at this point, coupled with the fact that Ponder, Josh Freeman, and Matt Cassel don't play defense, I'm really not sure that it does at this point.
