Vikings Stock Market Report: Seahawks

TOBY SMASH TOBY CRUSH TOBY BE FREE AGENT AT END OF SEASON AND NOT COME BACK - Steve Dykes

Well then...that was about as fun as a root canal

You know, going into Sunday's game against Seattle, I didn't expect the Vikings to, you know, actually beat the Seahawks.  I mean let's face it.  Seattle is the best team in the NFC, they were at home, and they had Percy Harvin returning.  The Vikings don't play well on the road, have found ways to self destruct all season, and had Greg Jennings inactive.  I expected a decent game, but a win was asking a bit much, all things considered.

But I didn't expect that, either.

So that's what it's come to for the Vikings in 2013.  Expecting to lose, but hoping not to get curb stomped.

But Sunday, a curb stomping is exactly what we got.  It was just one more unsatisfactory performance in a season full of them.  I guess I can't get no satisfaction, can I, Mr. Jagger?

I can't get no satisfaction
I can't get no satisfaction
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try
I can't get no, I can't get no

When I'm drivin' in my car
And that man comes on the radio
He's tellin' me more and more
About some useless information
Supposed to fire my imagination
I can't get no, oh no, no, no
Hey hey hey, that's what I say

Your SMR of useless information that fires your imagination follows.

Blue Chips:

Jarius Wright, WR: Jarius Wright finally had a good game, and his first two TD receptions of the year were something I thought we would have seen a lot more of by now.  In a day of very few bright spots, Wright's first TD was a beautiful throw and catch that tied the game at 10-10.

Solid Investments:

TOBYSMASH TOBYCRUSH: Toby Gerhart sighting, woo!  It was a bright spot only because my dad loves Gerhart, and he was actually laughing in the fourth quarter when Gerhart was piling up meaningless yard after meaningless yard.  Hey, at least someone was entertained.

Junk Bonds:

Christian Ponder, QB: So the Christian Ponder era ends, not with a bang, but with back to back interceptions.  This game was Ponder's career in a nutshell--moments of pretty good wrapped around things that make you scratch your head and go 'dude...what the hell'.  The picks and the fumble were awful, the play action TD throw to Wright was money, and everything else was meh.  I wanted Ponder to succeed, but after today, I have moved on.  Matt Cassel wasn't any better, so the Vikings might as well play Josh Freeman until the end of the season.  Then figure out of Freeman is the guy, or draft Teddy Bridgewater, Johnny Football, Tajh Boyd, or someone else. Yay.

Pretty much everyone else: If there was one good thing about today's blowout, it was that guys like Michael Mauti and Gerald Hodges got some decent playing time.  I'm going to be honest, by the time the game turned in to a laugher and they started playing, I had pretty much quit paying attention and started playing with my grandson, who is way cooler than the Vikings.  It's way past getting these guys some playing time and seeing what we have for next season, because this one is long past over.  With the exception of actually playing the games, of course.

Buy/Sell:

Buy:  Bill Musgrave playcalling on the Jarius Wright touchdown reception. That was a great playcall.  The Vikings called a play action, the safeties bit, and Wright got behind the defensive back.  Ponder threw a great ball, hit Wright in stride, touchdown.  Beautiful.

Sell:  Yeah, pretty much everything else on offense. There was a sequence that has defined the Bill Musgrave era in Minnesota.  It was in the 4th quarter, the Vikes were down 28, and it was fourth and goal from around the 15.  So what happens? Swing pass to Gerhart in the flat.  If case you were wondering, NO THE PLAY DID NOT RESULT IN A TOUCHDOWN.  Sigh...

Don Glover Quote Of The Week:

I gotta say, Dad was very low key today.  Admittedly, as a great grandpa his give a crap meter about the Vikings is about zero when the wee little one is around, but he still had a pretty good one.  After Ponder's second pick, we just started laughing.  Literally, we just started laughing.  My dad looks at me and says:

"Ponder has no more finesse than the man on the moon".

I have no idea what that means, but it feels somehow appropriate.

Sorry boys and girls, but that's pretty much all I have.  It's the same thing every week, and I'm fairly tired of talking about how bad this team is.  We'll see you in a day or two.
