Redskins At Vikings Final Score: Minnesota Wins A Wild One, 34-27

Hannah Foslien

It took two quarterbacks and overcoming some serious coaching errors, but the Minnesota Vikings finally have a win on American soil, as they defeated the Washington Redskins on Thursday Night Football by a score of 34-27.

The Vikings looked awful on defense in the first half, not forcing the Redskins to punt at all in the first two quarters of play. But the defense turned it around after that, allowing the Redskins to score just three points in the second half and outscoring Washington 20-3 in the final two quarters of play.

Quarterback Christian Ponder was putting together an outstanding game, completing 17-of-21 passes for 174 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. After throwing the interception on his second pass attempt, he was 16-of-19 the rest of the way. But he suffered a shoulder injury attempting to dive for a touchdown late in the third quarter, and went out for the game. He was replaced by Matt Cassel, who led the Vikings to two field goals in the fourth quarter, providing the final margin of victory.

Adrian Peterson had a decent night, carrying the ball 20 times for 75 yards and finding the end zone twice. One of the more surprising stars of the night was the much-maligned John Carlson, who caught seven passes for 98 yards on the evening, including a 28-yard touchdown pass from Ponder.

Defensive tackle Kevin Williams had a monster night on defense for the Vikings, as he collected three sacks of Robert Griffin III.

The win moves the Vikings to 2-7 on the season, and the team avoids their worst start in team history. The team now has ten days off before they travel to the Pacific Northwest for a game against the NFC's best team, the Seattle Seahawks.

We'll have more on this game throughout the rest of the evening and into tomorrow. For now. . .the Vikings win, ladies and gentlemen!
