Vikings Optimisim for 2014

Well fellow Vikings fans, we find ourselves winding down on another very disappointing Vikings season. It started with so much optimism going into the season, but that was all for not when the defense continued to give up late touchdowns in the final minutes of close games. So where do we go from here? It’s not all bad. Yes I know that sounds ridiculous but this team isn’t that far off believe or not. Below are some reasons for optimism going into next year.

1. Coaching staff – It really comes down to the ability of the Speilman hiring a competent coach that can assemble a good staff. Head coaches often get more blame or credit when it comes to wins. It really comes down to assembling a good staff. The key for the Vikings is finding a coach that is able to make that happen. A fresh voice in the locker room will help revive this team. Hopefully they make the right choice.

2. Young players – I got say the talent on this team is good unfortunately they lack at the two most important positions in football. Coach and QB. Patterson is the play maker we expected to see. Rhodes seems to be the real deal at CB and Harrison is a stud at safety. What we need a replacement for NT and a slot corner to replace Winfields spot. A new defense philosophy would help as well.

3. Speilman - People will blame him for this lost season but I won’t. He’s assembled a talented roster and has done a great job in the draft. Sure he missed on Ponder and they should have had a backup plan. But I’ll give him one more chance to get a coach he wants and another shot at a QB.

4. Ownership – Yes again when you’re losing everyone will pile on you. But the wilfs are willing to spend the dough and got us a new stadium. One has to respect them for that. 5. Weak Division - The division is for the taking for the next couple of years to come. The lions are self-disrupting. The bears are getting old and it’s showing on defense. The Packers have Rodgers but that’s about it as you can see now.

Summary Really comes down to hiring a competent coach and drafting a QB of the future. Two big if’s but this is where we’re at. It can be done and think the Vikings trade down and draft and Nix and then move up to snag a QB of the future. That’s the best scenario for the Vikings going into next year. So take a drink and look forward to Christmas instead of a Vikings win. Enjoy watching the young talent the last 3 games. I got to say it’s kind of nice not investing so much into the team and enjoy watching the games for what they are. Stay classy Minnesota……………
